I have been driving Cricket daily back and forth to my kid's school (15 miles round trip).

Even though it is still under-revved and we can't figure out the problem (didn't have this problem prior to it's total failure), it can now make it up to 55 mph in 5th gear.

Just a week ago, you couldn't get it above 45 mph in 3rd.

It still loses power greatly when going up a hill.

What things should we "re-check" and what new things should we check?

My dad is concerned it may end up needing a valve job, but hasn't gotten to look at it again once it started running.

Clues? Ideas? Thanks!

Feul pump, Timing on the distributor , feul filter ,injectors that is what i can think off good luck

Check both ignition coils - I had a similar problem and it turned out two of the posts on the primary coil were not putting out any spark/voltage

Coil pack, right?

Both are new...I will still have them check, though.

My carbed 2.0 was doing something similar...turned out to be vac advance was not working properly...probably not applicable to your setup, but if you have a vac line connecting to something and it isn't drawing properly you can loose power...or if one is disconnected or plugged it can cause this too...check to make sure there are no dangling hoses that seem to go nowhere...they usually do go somewhere...

The DIS systems are different...so you might have the timing checked again if you haven't already done so...

Make sure you have the right coils - they change the firing order on the posts from the later years - they look the same but the towers fire in different order
