Getting a little out of hand!

Heard on the news that a lot of truckers are going to park their rigs on March 24th, to try and combat the high prices. If they can all come together and pull it off, it may have some affect.

It's not just that the dollar is weak so OPEC jacked up the price. That's only one side of it. I think most people don't realize things like the fact that we haven't been allowed to build any new refineries in this country for nearly 20 years because of enviromentalists complaining. Never mind that those enviro-weenies didn't have any complaints about a sewer line being forced through several backyards right next to a creek by my house, through a wetland area, etc.

Actually, it's 30 years, and it has more to do with profit than regulations. A refinery costs a hell of a lot up-front, until recently has netted very slim profits, and is now a hazardous investment since people are switching to biofuels or taking the bus.

Since our refining capability has never been increased to handle demand, we have to import a large amount of finished fuel from the Middle East. Because they're not only holding a hand on the taps of the oil wells, they also hold onto the taps for the finished fuels too, we can easily get bent over at the pump.

Most of our imported oiland fuel is from the Americas. The ME just gets a lot of air time because they heavily influence prices all over the world, regardless of who buys.

China is forcing up a lot of prices, just look at the bloated cost of metals now and how much turning in scrap generates. We've handed China our economy on a silver platter and now we're paying the price because they took the platter too. We're paying now for moving companies over there to "benefit" from cheap labor.

Yeah, you can thanks the republicans for that. While they're certainly not 100% responsible, they've been doing everything they can to grease the wheels that were shipping our jobs over there.

Greed is part of the problem, but not all of it. Like I said earlier, the enviro-weenies have been very effective in not allowing us to produce oil from within our borders, and have prevented the construction of things like new refineries and nuclear power plants. Yet nuclear power has become something relatively clean and relatively safe. Instead we're relying on aging refineries and aging power plants burning fossil fuels, and doing it all in an inefficient manner because they've been prevented from updating their equipment. Of course, that all is only still the tip of the iceberg so to speak, there's much more to the whole problem than just that.

:bsflag: Despite all the press, when push comes to shove, the "enviro-weenies" lose consistently until well after the damage is done. If an oil company wants to build a refinery, they can get it built. If they want to poke a hole in the ground, they can poke it.

I'd rather pay these higher prices for our own oil than to someone overseas. In case you haven't noticed, there ain't a whole lot that's still made here in the USA. 99% of things have been shipped in from overseas.

Of course, you're also overlooking the huge amounts of oil found in other parts of our country and that there are companies chomping at the bit to get their hands on oil from ANWR.

You may be willing to pay higher prices for domestic fuel, but until the oil companies can make more money on domestic fuel than on imports, we will have imports. And while there's lots and lots of oil all over Texas, the cheap stuff has been drilled and is being pumped right now. As prices rise and it becomes possible to drill the more expensive oil and turn a profit, they'll do so, but that's a trailing effect; meaning it will do nothing at all ever to bring down the price. Period.

A significant portion of the wasted energy is due to enviromentalists preventing things and politicians being too limp-wristed on all sides of the aisle to do anything about it. If we could just update our refineries and power plants we could drive the cost of fuels down because we wouldn't be wasting so much due to outdated technology.

:bsflag: Too bad there is no horseshit flag.

I don't know about you but I can't ride a bike to work. I've thought several times about buying a motorcycle for transportation, but as Will said, the cost of buying one outweighs the benefits. I have to drive a truck for work, either my own pick up or my boss's dump truck. I can't drive a motorcycle to the junkyard to get an axle for my truck and I can't take a motorcycle to haul in a load of scrap metal. So it would only be useful when I go out somewhere for fun, right? Well... hate to say it, but I don't do that much because the rising fuel costs prohibit it to a large degree, which more or less eliminates the need for a motorcycle, doesn't it?

I don't know you, but I kinda doubt you're is a position that makes it completely impossible to cut back on driving.

Amen! Though to me it sounds like your teacher is a socialist... world equality. I guess we should all be like Russia.:no2:

Sorry, this problem is not because of George W. It's not because of the Republicans. It's actually not even really because of the Democrats. It's largely because NONE of the political parties have the balls to stand up and do what's right for the country, they're too busy lining their pockets and wringing their hands. My vote is for a necktie party.:stirthepot:

This problem has been brewing for a long time, but you have to be paying no attention at all to deny that Bush and his political party sped it all up signifigantly. There are good politicians, typical politicians, bad politicians, crooks, liars, scumbags, disgustingly incompatent politicians, outright criminals, then, somewhere way off the chart, these assholes.

i dont usually write mileage down on my receipts however when i bought the truck (back when the prices were lower, it took 52 CDN to fill it up, Now it's just over 73 CDN to fill it up....my gf's f-150 is 140 CDN to fill

whats making it hard on me, is waiting for income tax money so i can get to changing my plugs and wires (which is another 140 bucks), i have a pretty bad miss at idle and just the other night it stalled when i went to start it. I've had those plugs in for too long i guess (2 years) lol

The problem is not supply and demand.. They just want you to think that, and frankly it works.

Back a year or so ago the price of a barrel of oil was like $65 bucks. The price of gas was over $3.00 a gallon. Lately, the price of a barrel has been up around $95-$99 a barrel. Guess what.... Gas prices are still around $3.00 a gallon until now.

So you tell me... If they can make money charging us $3.00 a gallon when the barrels were costing them $95 a pop, think of how much they were making, and or overcharging us when it was only $65 a barrel.

Bush and Cheney both have ties to oil, they don't want the price to go down.

The oil companies are pulling record profits still... There is nothing we can do.

Well I for one disagree with the underlined statement above. And why may you ask? Well let me tell you why even though I full well know you will disagree with me & that's fine as it is a FREE COUNTRY!.

We CAN do something about it but the honest truth if you admit it is we are NOT WILLING to do anything about it because there are those who #1 "think we can't" & #2 there are those of us who are NOT WILLING to do anything about it because we are so spoiled over what we have now we are not willing to give anything up to fight the big oil people. And that my friends is the TRUTH in a nutshell.

Read my lips. "IF" by chance you have something that you KNOW everybody wants & needs (so they think anyway), you have the power to CONTROL the price AND DEMAND of it don't you? If on the other hand you have something that you "beleive" is something everyone wants & needs but when you try to sell it you have no takers, you don't control anything do you? If you for one minute think or believe that BIG OIL doesn't KNOW this then you are kidding yourself beyond belief. It's call PRICE CONTROL over the product you have made into a HUGE DEMAND ITEM & so therefore you CONTROL everything aspect of it.

The ONLY WAY we "common little people" are going to be able to do anything at all about it is to be WILLING to give up something we are so accustomed to having & enjoying that has become a "way of life" for us all & resort to using something else to reduce the sell & control of the items (gas & oil) that we all seem to not be able to do without.

Now the REAL questions to ask are these. #1. Are we WILLING to do without? #2. How do we go about doing it? When we can answer these 2 questions, we WILL have the answer to the high gas & oil prices we are facing which are only going to get worse in the future. We ain't seen nothing yet. Mark my words on it.

There are those among us who feel regardless how much gas costs, they are going to drive drive drive & to hell with what anyone else thinks for says about it as according to their way of thinking it's THEIR RIGHT to do so. And then there are others who are less fortunate to be able to afford the high prices & are forced to cut back in some way just to be able to get back & forth to work let alone go out "cruisin" just because they want to.

It all goes back to the simple fact of SUPPLY & DEMAND. The big oil boys have the OIL & WE the people DEMAND it so the BIG OIL people say if you want it, PAY ME. AND BIG OIL CONTROLS THE PRICES!!! I rest my case. Until the time comes that WE the PEOPLE STOP demanding it, the prices are just going to keep on going up & the BIG OIL MEN are going to be laughing their asses off going to the bank.

The last three letters in AMERICAN is CAN. And WE ALL have the attitudes that we CAN do whatever we want to do & in most cases we CAN. But at what price are we willing to pay so we CAN so what we want to do. BIG OIL KNOWS this already & their attitude is we ARE going to PAY for what we CAN DO. And if anyone IMO thinks or believes otherwise, they have not taken a good hard look at the REAL WORLD today or else just don't care what's going on today. Think about it. And the BIGGER problem is WE AMERICANS are NOT WILLING to give up one single thing to reduce the prices we are being charged in today's world. That my frinds is a PROVEN FACT of the AMERICAN WAY of LIFE. The MORE we get, the MORE we "THINK" we have to have. And we are ALL GUILTY no matter what anyone thinks or says about. Every single last one of us INICLUDING MYSELF. It's the AMERICAN WAY!!!

:icon_idea: DRIVE OFF :icon_idea:

Don't try doing that in the State of Virginina my friend. Too many have tried that & they are behind bars right now. Virginia takes this very seriously. Take my word for it or come here & try that & see what happens. I can guarantee you one thing. You won't be posting on TRS for a long time. And all that does too is to cause ME & others to have to pay MORE for the gas you would be stealing & that would highly piss me off.

You are not just stealing gas from the gas station operator. You would be stealing from the state & the feds too because of all the taxes involved on a gallong of gas. NOT a good move to be making is it???

Hehe....

Some of use our vehicles for a living. I own an F-250 with a VERY thirsty V-8. Guess what? I don't drive it. So don't tell me that I am not trying to cut back. I am making a very high monthly payment on a truck I never drive... Why? Because I need it quite a bit. Hard to tow 8-10K with a ranger. Plus, If I were to get rid of it I would have to find something reliable to have as a backup for my B2. I am getting around 21MPG with the B2.

Your correct, something needs to be done. We've tried the "Don't buy gas on this day" and they laugh at us. Most of the people who are driving daily have to do so to live. Have you been on a bus lately? Come on down to my hood and ride the public transit.

Your also right that it is a free country and I will drive what I please, but that doesn't mean the government should sit back and watch as all the middle and lower class people writher in pain because of the prices and do NOTHING about it, they can do something, they just don't want too.

Back a few years ago ford had designed an electric ranger. When the leases were up ford was forced to buy the trucks back to destroy them. I am sure ford wanted to ruin perfectly good trucks because it was fun.. No, there was a big brother pissed because if those trucks went into production we wouldn't need as much oil.
