A lot of you mentioned cutting back on expenses. Which while is a good idea, it's also not. The Economy works on spending. Less money being spent buying consumer goods weakens the economy. Reason being, the product companies sell, the less people they need employeed. So they cut back on hours and employees. This is especially true in the resutrant industry. Example, I managed a pizza joint a few years back and the store was in a lower middle class area. People started cutting back and eating out is usually the first to go. On any given Friday or Saturday night I would need 7 delivery drivers, 2 cooks, 2 phone girls and my management team working. After a while it became 5 drivers, 1 cook, 1 phone girl and 1 other member of management. The first peolple to jump ship were the cooks and phone girls, then the drivers started leaveing. Some found better jobs, some didn't and a few went on welfair.
That not to say cutting back isn't good though. Cutting back on things bought via credit is a great idea. That's a pretty big reason why the economy is in the shape it's in. People were suckered into buying houses they normally couldn't afford on loans with adjustable rate mortgages and principle only loans. Then when the intrest rate spiked suddenly they realized they couldn't afford to make the payments, filed for bankrupcy and whatnot.
All of the sudden banks and lenders had houses that they could not sell because they trucked people into purchasing a house they couldn't afford in the first place.
The thing that would be the best for the economy is to have jobs here in the US. Also doing away with wel-fair and section 8 would be good too. Except for the people who truely need it (ie. disabled people). I think welfair is the biggest joke in the world especially if you can work. I don't like the fact that I work 2 jobs and am going to school so that someone can sit at home all day watching rickey lake on a bigger tv than mine.
Some people have a mentality that if they mess up bad enough someone will bail them out. They got this from thier parents. I remember buying my first car in cash and having a lot of proplems but no money. What did I do? Walk to work or get rides from friends till I could afford to fix it. Luckly at the time I was working at a car wash and make about $60 a day in tips. So I could usually fix my car after a week. Recently I drove myself into debt with credit cards and I seeked out a 2nd job delivering pizza. Within a month I went from 2300 to 2000 in debt. That's not a lot but it stops the BS 24% intrest on my major card from adding up. After I pay off my cards, I'm gonna continue working a second job so I can work on paying off my truck and saving up.
The gas prices are killing me but, I just keep working and bear it. Hopefully in a year, I'll be able to purchase a bike and I'll save some gas there while looking good for the ladies. Sorry, it's not in me to drive a small underpowered car that gets 50mpg highway. I'd rather have a fast bike that gets 60mpg highway and have the ablity to attract the ladies.
