I'll be buying a 92 4x4 explorer :headbang: for $400! it has a clicking noise when turning and it's sat for 5 or so years and it's got the vacuum hubs :sad:My first 4x4 WOO!!!!!

As soon as I get 400. I got 1/4 of it right now lol

Explorers don't have vacuum hubs. They operate automatically, but not by vacuum. Good luck with it!

Oh I just saw that it had auto hubs so I went ahead to think they where vacuum operated instead of manual ones

Well, how many miles/km on it? What noises does it make running, etc. I've got a 92 with 325 000km on it, got it a few months ago from some kid for 300 ( had a blown clutch ). So far other than the typical lifter tick or whatever it is I've only had to replace the hubs, power steering box, pump and serpentine belt. Other than that its little things like the center console and had to add 3rd row seating, so it depends really on how well it was taken care of....maybe check the spare....lol.....make sure it has air in it.........

it has 170,000 miles on it, I'll get it this wed. It has the A4LD tranny
it needs the driverside C.V. joint replaced it didn't have a battery so I haven't heard it run or drive yet. (I hope it only needs fluids changed and a battery, plus gas lol) and i hope the transfer case electric motor isn't dead yet either

well Wednesday was a little too muddy for my truck to pull it out friggin street tires lol now I get to wait till saturday :annoyed:

well it's a 93 explorer :icon_surprised: it's at my grandfathers place now we had to flat tow it there. The lady that I bought it from said that the trans. was ran without fluid once and reverse doesn't work right plus the tranny fluid is brown :bawling: so I might need a trans but I'm thinking of switching in a manual trans into it :icon_welder:

Well I've finallygotten some time to look at it (after reading up on some stuff about it) it seems that the wire from the starter solenoid to the starter is corroded so I hooked a jumper up to the positive starter terminal and tapped the positive terminal on the batt. and she started!:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

BUT...before I get to excited I need to get the dreaded A4ld modulator and replace it:sad: just from running it for a little bit the fluid went from lil to none in a couple of minutes while I was checking the alt. and wiring :bawling:I found out about the white smoke after my grandmother told me
so yea it runs but I'm up to my neck with possible tranny problems:dunno:
fun:annoyed:

Nice, I'll trade...mine is that gay gold color....lol.
You'll be happier with a 5spd, those a4lds.....they're good for the scrapyard.....hide em under your scrap metal and get rid of them in the pile when the guys not looking....LOL

Yea I would swap tranny's as soon as I find a M50d that isn't overly priced on the condition it's in, and I filled the A4ld with fluid and it pulls forward in every gear. and it moved farther in park then in 1st and the transfer case shift motor is gone also so yea :dunno: and my gas line right at the tank is also cracked pretty bad (it leaks worse then a sieve!)
A fun start to my first 4x4 right? :annoyed:
At least I don't have to work under it while laying on gravel:icon_twisted:

right at the tank, do you mean at the compression fitting where it changes from metal to rubber? you can get away with cuttin both and crimping just the rubber line to the metal line usingfuel injection clamps. Its not a proper fix, but it would do you for the time being ( had a minivan i did this on, was still holding 2 yrs later when i got rid of it ).

IA is Iowa? I looked it up the cheap ones were 500.00, there seen a rebuilt for 1100.00. How much cheaper do they run down there? Here they're around 800 on the cheap side - 1500 rebuilt.

where are you looking at for prices? if it's a junkyard I've been to all of the ones around fort madison they barely have any RBV's at all but if it's something else could you post a website please?

It probably is that compression fitting, I'll look into it when I can jack it up,
and yes it is Iowa. :D
