I finally decided that I couldn't afford a 4x4 4.0L ranger, so my parents opted to give me their 2003 3.0L edge. She's got 62K miles on her and I want a little bit more power. I was thinking of getting the JET "performance chip" and underdrive pulleys for a start. Wanted to know if the JET thing stays in the OBD-II port all the time (i assume it does) because if not I'd really like to get a scangauge.

Please feel free to give any other suggestions.

If it's an auto I'd get the programmer to change the shift points.

Roller Rockers

Dump and ideas of cold air intakes

Maybe a gear change? Remember the 3.0 loves those rpms, so a lower gearing will help.

Actually if it's an auto, a manual swap will be good.....:D

better to get a tuner because you can vary the tune and maybe get more tunes. if you are just driving truck and want the best economy. you can set it one way. then if you need more torque or power. set it for that.

the 3.0 experts say the best mods for results are as follows

headers, muffler, rollerrockers, underpully, tuner scan tool. larger throttlebody. larger maf, true cold intake.

your engine is an air pump. the more air you can get in it the better.

Which tuner do you suggest? and who do I get it set by?

Lookin at stuffforyourranger.com

SCT tuner is like 400$, a lot more, but with 3 programs I guess its worth it...

with all those mods you listed, what would you assume power output would be?

The cold air intake and bigger TB are useless unless you open lower intake manifold. So you best bet it to have it ported and polished, then use an escape TB. You have a later 3.0, so it should already have the composite intake with removable TB.

But I still think Cold Air Intakes are the most useless expensive POS's out there. Your engine can't flow enough air to justify a larger intake. You stock set-up flows more than enough.

Some have argued whether headers make a difference or not. I say they will, just as long as you open the top end (intake manifolds, and TB) along with the rest of the exhaust.

You may be better off regearing and have you shift points changed with a tuner to allow for better acceleration and mileage.....

I'm not super worried about mileage because I drive with a heavy foot most of the time so i know i wont get great gas mileage.

I plan on having the truck for a while, so a lot will get done to it.
