they dont look like they just pop off like they do on the rangers, do i have to use allen wrenches and open up the hubs, or what? i know ill have to us my spanner nut wrench, but i havnt gotten to that point yet. also how do i get the axle shafts out? are there c clips in the diff that i got to take of first?

yes u half to tak an allen wrench to them and then there a coulpe nap ring in there and after that it should just slide off and after that u might need to remove the spindle to get the shaft off depending on what kinda axle it is but there are no clips inside the diff te just slide off

Like said, there are two snaprings holding the locking hub inside the wheel hub (one on the end of the axle stub, one around the inner circumference of the wheel hub). Once those are out, thread a couple allen screws into the hub to use as "handles" to pull the hub itself out.

After the locking hub is out of the wheel hub, the rest comes apart the same way as the D35.

Just remember that some parts inside a D44 front hub are intentionally
made to BREAK to protect other parts.

Warn refered to one part as a "Fuse".

For BRUTAL use you can go looking for a late '70's F-series that was factory
equipped with an NP203 T-case, these trucks were full time 4x4 (unless converted)

They had a unique "hub", in that there is a metal "Cap" that goes on the hub
and inside the very normal wheel hub there was a solid metal disc with splines on the ID and OD that replaced the locking hub assembly.

These things are by definition indestructable and I've never seen anyone
talk about them....

^^^ drive 'slugs' or flanges with the cap as part of the slug when you buy them aftermarket. They are mostly used nowadays by trailered rigs as they are fulltime 4wd, and don't let you unhook the front driveline (unlock a hub) without taking the cap off and removing the slug.
