iv had my ranger for a week now and noticed now and then it feels sluggish on the motorway, 3000 rmp would get me anywhere between 60-80 mph
STRANGE

after asking my question on 3 ranger forums, i pretty much got no info which is a shame as i thought that the 3 forums i chose to use were high traffic forums..

any how i feel this should be made a sticky on all 3 forums as its cured my problem as well as around 20 other rangers with the same symptoms according to the site i found it on

If this has already been done on this forum then i apologise for not being able to find it

SO, if your ranger feels sluggish and has poor MPG please read

Basically there is a small filter no bigger than your little finger nail that gets clogged up, mine was full of gunk and what looked like hair :/
clean this out and all should be fine :)

The filter comes just after the fuel filter, follow your fuel filter towards the fuel pump and you will see a banjo bolt, the filter is under this bolt (what happens is the fuel fed to her passes through the small filter to the injectors, if the filter i slightly blocked the fuel wont flow to the injectors correctly causing them to pour fuel through instead of spraying the fuel like it should...

This should take no more than 15-30 mins to do

Tools
Wide mouth pliers
long nose pliers
13mm socket
wrench
extension bar
long philips screw driver

1.
The banjo bolt is located near to the fuel filter on the side of the engine

2.
To get to the bolt i had to remove a radiator pipe, undo the bolt and be careful to collect/watch where the washers fall.
It should go bolt head, washer, spacer, washer, spring then filter
the spring will be flush to the engine block so you will have to get long nose pliers to get it out

3.
To remove the filter lightly push the screw driver in to the hole until it stops, when you pull it out it should be on tip of the driver

4.
This is what you should have out

5.
i cleaned my filter out with contact cleaner, ran it under the hose and used a cotton bud to remove the rest of the gunk

6.
refit as reversal of this guide

7.
when you take the truk for a drive you should feel a difference in top / 5th gear

ENJOY

I've been working on diesels for almost 15 years. Its very common to find these little screens on diesels. Its also very common for people to NEVER clean them, mainly because most dont know that they are there. Then again, most people dont know that diesels Rangers existed. I've seen people have pumps rebuilt, then bitch at the rebuilder for not doing a good job, over that filter!!

I was looking at the pictures going wtf, I've never seen that engine, then realized the master cylinder on the wrong side.

I don't think this would apply to 90% of the rangers here as were mostly american and don't have a factory diesel.

Did you also see that the master has 4 lines coming off it?

Whats a "13 mm"?

aren't they an alternative/indie band? or is that metrix? lol

And while we are on the subject, what's a "Beiber"?

i've got "Beaver fever"!!!!!! oh wait a minute you said "beiber",I don't have a clue

Oh. Very helpful.

What's a metric? :icon_thumby:

I'm not 100% sure, I think it some weird system of measurements that is based off of 10s. As opposed to our normal system, based off random numbers, where 1 mile = 5,280', 1' = 12", 3' = a yard, and an acre = 4,840 yards². Which makes perfect sense to me. I'll leave it up to one of our Canadian brethren to explain to us this metric stuff. ツ
