get out of a speeding ticket?

20 over is reckless endangerment .. you got lucky

haha I think that depends what state and what the area is like with other cars and people.

I did 48 over and just got speeding.

.....farm land with straight roads and flat with fields on both side and a cop half way down doing lazer at 10:30 at night. max fine of $150 and $143 in court fee's and $500 in insurence increase. :badidea: driver retraining is a $150 class because i did not want to stop for a yellow.

SO yeah i pay alot of money. :annoyed:

It's not worth it.

Please poeple don't attack me.

Back a few years ago, I hit some guy at 85mph in 45mph zone with no car insurance (I did not know I wasn't insured). Point of impact was 85mph, estimated speed before the crash was about 100-105mph. Got cited for speeding, no car insurance, amongst other citations. What I would do, is plead not guilty, and see if they can drop the points off some how. So your insurance will never know about it. I now have a clear MVR :)

DO NOT EVER JUST PAY A TICKET!

Do you know the ramifications of paying this ticket? Points? Suspension? Fines?

Points can and will increase insurance costs, if you get enough points you can lose your license.

Some states have mandatory suspension for speeding over a set limit (in PA it's 30mph over).

Always plea not guilty and request a hearing. You can not come out of the hearing any worse than you went in, and you might get it tossed completely. (some courts have a minimal court cost)

When you go in just ask the judge if there is an alternate disposition that will not carry points. Most of the time this is all that is needed to get the speeding amount dropped to something less (5 or 10 over are common violations)

You also have a chance on the officer not showing for your court date. In most states if the officer does not show the ticket is dismissed. It is happening more and more in a tighter economy, the officers usually get paid for overtime and when a county is tight on cash they don't want to pay overtime for traffic tickets. You never know unless you request the hearing.

Another fun story.....I was in court one day when there was a officer set up just like you described. He had about 20 people in court that day for his speed trap. One of the first people to go hired an expensive lawyer and they had the gun he used for radar disqualified. So the other 19 or so people all had their tickets dismissed and got off scott free! That can't happen to you unless you request a hearing. The people who just paid the ticket never even knew about the problem with the gun...they all remained convicted.

Take it from someone who does this for a living....it pays to fight every ticket! (see signature)

I want to say "go to court". But I don't know what I would say when I got there. I could say "Well, I didn't see the sign." Or, better, "I didn't see the cop." Or you could say your speedo was temporarily insane. But, hey, give it a try, why not?

Just ask the judge if there is an alternate disposition to the speeding violation. 5 miles over is pretty common here in PA. That leads to no points and a fine. The fine amounts are nothing compared to the other problems that come with a speeding ticket. Insurance rates increase, point accumulation leads to license suspension...etc...

Do NOT lie to a judge...they have heard every excuse. Unless you want to hire an expert don't expect to fight the ticket on the grounds of a mistake or an officers mistake.

If you have a clean record (I mean really clean) bring your driving history with you. Don't expect it to mean anything, but just sometimes having the record shows you care.

Dress NICE! you don't have to wear a suit, but try to dress to impress. A shirt with a collar, slacks (not jeans) shoes instead of sneakers. If you are taking off from work and must show up in work attire, apologize for that fact from the start!

Lot's of "Please" and "Thank You" Make sure you call the judge "Your Honor" and "sir or maam"

Just a few tips to help make your court appearance successful!

Man up, don't be a pansy and try to get out of your punishment that you deserve. Pay the fine, get the points, deal with it, don't get caught again.

OR

Waste a bunch of the taxpayers money by dragging this into court when you know full well that you are as guilty of this as you can be.

I would fight it...

You were speeding and that is wrong, but most people do it...and as has been mentioned, there is a good chance that the Judge will lower the fine...I went to court for a ticket and the Crown Attorney approached me before the trial and asked if I would settle for a reduced fine and no points...I went for it but still had to address the Judge...

Aside from that...I see the biggest problem with speeding tickets is that some towns set ridiculously low speed limits and then start raking in the cash...

Like Barrie...they dropped all speed limits to 40 Kph in school zones...which is fine if the kids are on the street...but the cops would sit there at 10 PM and nail everyone in a school zone for speeding when the kids should have been in bed long ago...

Many people complained...the city of Barrie revised the speed limit and set the lower limit to school hours only...outside of school hours the speed limit was raised to 50 Kph...which was still too low if you have to drive from one end of the city to the other through back streets...

just go to court and tell the judge you were not paying attention maybe youll get lucky and he will lower the fee

Dont walk in angry.

Nobody can think clearly with fists clenched.

Just dont expect to walk in and get out of a ticket. Expect to pay and move on out.

I always plead not guilty when stuff like that happens. I don't know about out there but in my area the cops will almost always make you an offer before you step in the courtroom. They don't want you to go through with the hearing because your court costs are paid for regardless of the outcome and it saves the county money. The only time I actually didn't go through with a hearing is when I got a 30 over for doing 85 in a 55 and that's because right before the hearing they offered me 15 over if I pleaded guilty. The benefits outweighed the risk on that one.

If you go to court they will often knock it down a little or make it another violation that carries a fine but no points, such as "failure to obey a traffic device". Mostly they just want your money.
Otherwise look for a technicality like the speed limit signs posted too far apart or something like that. There is a road I use here where I'm going to try that the next time I get a ticket. PA MV Code says signs have to be no more than one-half mile apart and on this road they are anywhere from 2 to 3.5 miles apart. Golf buddy of mine, who happens to be a lawyer, beat a ticket he got when he semi-illegally turned right on red because the sign was posted incorrectly. When I say incorrectly I mean it wasn't even close to spec.
And for those of you who say I broke the law so I should pay the fine, I say how many times have I heard "the law is the law"? Fine, so if I can beat a ticket because the state doesn't obey their own law then I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about it.

figured this would be the area for this kind of random question. So the other day I got a speeding ticket her in wonderful Murrieta, CA. It is for 52 in 35. Bike cop was waiting in some shadows on pretty much 1 of 2 roads with 35 mph limits, and this one I had been down once before little tiny short road. Anyways, pulls me over and within 2 minutes hands me my ticket and goes and sits in the exact same spot. Probably emptied a whole friggin book that day.

Is there any way to get out of these or is it just better to pay and do traffic school?

HOLY SHIT i live in Murrieta CA too and those bike cops are dicks

but what you want to do idk if you took care of it already but if you get anoter keep rescheduling your court date do this ablut 3 times and eventually the cop will be tired of rescheduling and you get off without paying the ticket my friend has done this proabably about 5 times lol

Some of those ticket/traffic lawers can make speeding tickets expensive parking tickets for you but you pay$$$$ but you save in the long run with lower insurance;

i went to court for doing 75 in a 50 (back when i was dumb) and the judge lowered it to 59 in a 50, even tho its inconvenient court is always the best option, if i hadnt gone to court another time the judge would not have found me not guilty for an accident i got charged for , so going to court has its advantages,

He's right, the court doesn't have the time or resources to actually give everybody a trial. 9 times out of 10 the cop will knock it down when he gives you the ticket to try and encourage you to just pay the fine, but sometimes they don't. In which case, go to court and they'll knock it down there.

Back in my MUCH MUCH more stupid days, I was doing 80 in a 45 (I have since sold my sports car for my ranger, best decision I ever made) The fine was two hundred bucks. I went to court and they offered to reduce it to 54 in a 45 to avoid having to actually prosecute me. After court costs it still came out to $130 and only 2 points. Giving you a trial is just as much of an inconvenience for them as it is for you. Depending on your state the cop has to show up too.

Not to jack the thread or anything, but yesterday I went looking for a book I needed for a course...I was expecting the store on the left-hand side of the road for some reason but as I pulled up to the stop sign I noticed the store was on the right...and I was in the left lane...I signaled, (I think) and just as I was about to make the lane change (the light was red) a black car with tinted windows rolls slowly into the lane beside me....

So, being a former courier driver, I pull into the left turn lane (that turned into a demolished building parking lot with gates blocking access) and notice the light is still red...so....being an idiot...I cross three lanes of traffic to make my right turn...

I just got parked and as I was opening the door...the black car with tinted windows pulls up in front of my car to block me in...I was thinking..."OK, he saw me calling him an A$$hole and now he wants to prove something"....

It was an unmarked cop car...oooooooops!

The cop gets out and his line of questioning goes something like "do you know that what you did back there was an illegal turn...blah, blah, booooolah"...

I was just about to say "just give me the ticket and fut the shuck up" when I notice that the cop was kinda shaking and he was kinda weird looking even with the dark sunglasses...

So I said "I realize that what I did was wrong, but I thought..." and he cut me off and started rambling about investigating serious accidents with body parts thrown around the road...

Then I realized this guy was just chewing my ass for doing something we both know I shouldn't have done...and wouldn't have done if I hadn't spent $20 on gas to drive around looking for this book that I needed...

He finished by almost yelling "just be careful and think about what you are doing"...

:icon_confused:

I walked away without a ticket but still scratching my head...wtf!
