Hello,
I was curious if electric sending units for temperature gauges need to be grounded. i have a trans temp that is screwed into a 'T', but the way it's currently hooked up the sending unit cannot be grounded. I only have the 1 wire going to the gauge from the sending unit. Im not getting any temperature reading on the gauge at all. not sure if not having a ground on the treads is causing this??
thanks
steve

The temp sending units with only one terminal use the case as the second terminal to complete the circuit. ECT sensors with two terminals don't use
the case for an electrical connection.

man, i was banging my head against the wall for some time but i didn't even think about needed a ground. i wish i would have thought about that before. lol, i feel dumb now.
thanks for the help!

And NEVER use a "T" on a temperature sensor!

If it isn't immersed in the flow, you're going to get a low (perhaps very low) measurement.

Electrical gauges are inadvisible at all, since they only work with a perfectly regulated and calibrated electrical system (and NONE of them are).

What's the point of an aftermarket temperature sensor if it's going to measure garbage?
