Gen I/II to Gen 5 front end conversion installed on a Gen 3...

I don't get it crew, what's with all the attitude. Sure it's extremely crooked but I'm sure with some tweaking it can be straightened out. PS that's gen4, gen5 doesn't exist. It's what people with 01+ trucks want to call their trucks but the only difference is the new 4.0 compared to the older one, chassis is the same.

same here.a couple of days with some fiberglass and filler, that could look like it came from the factory with it.

aligning panels is dick all,at least he's willing to try something different.
this thread is definetely an incentive to not put 'in progress' pics on this site.

Ok, maybe we were a little harsh. But it does need some more work. A few days with some fiberglass and it could look good.

doubtful. given the OP's skills at hanging body panels, i doubt his skills at working with shaping fiberglass will be much better.

It might be worth a try, if you can Gen I/II radiator support, and try bolting it up, then at least the grill, headlights, and fenders will line up better...

He did say it was a quick job. It seems he is willing to put some time into it.

So many stupid comments, so little time... but I will do my best:

"I understand function over form, but spending $600 on a fiberglass front that looks like ass, compared to swapping in the correct core support, fenders, ect.. for less than $600, sounds like throwing your money away.
If you didn't butcher up the fiberglass too bad, and I were you, I'd try to sell the fiberglass at a profit, then buy the steel to do it right.
OR truck function over form is using a BFH to bash out the wrecked fenders and hood to make it work, and not spend any money at all.
My $.02 "

-Are you a complete idiot? Did you just look at the pictures, not read any of the posts, and say " this is retarded, I better post a facepalm picture right away!"

I did not start this project out because I wanted to convert my front end to the newer bodystyle- I just wanted a fiberglass front. I don't want steel you moron, that was the whole point. I stumbled across this set for sale which included everything needed (albeit for an earlier gen truck).
I've been looking at prices for over a year and when you add up all of the miscellaneous pieces (headlights, all new bulbs, wiring harness, grille insert, etc) this kit was the cheapest I'd seen.

Your next post confirms you are an idiot and did not read my previous reply, as you then admit that "It might be worth a try" and suggest a way to do it! So, which is it: facepalm dumb, or worth a try?

"doubtful. given the OP's skills at hanging body panels, i doubt his skills at working with shaping fiberglass will be much better."

-Right, because in my total of 14 posts on this forum you have been able to ascertain my technical abilities.

"this thread is definetely an incentive to not put 'in progress' pics on this site."
-Agreed.

I had planned to leave this setup alone, as it fit my needs and I really don't care if the panels line up on my winter beater truck. However, the sheer amount of retarded posts and arrogant assholes on this forum has inspired me to revisit this project and make it right.
No more "in progress" pictures, but i will post after this is corrected. Stay tuned, as I am certain more faceplams are forthcoming.....

With everything mis-aligned like that isnt it going to cause damage to the panels from vibration and such? It seems like it would cause the fiberglass to crack without the proper support.

glad you've got thick enough skin to not let this b.s. run you off the site.

i was very dissapointed to see the attitude being displayed here.people don't need to be all nicey-nicey about things, but theres a difference between criticism and just being insulting.

looking forward to seeing what you do with this truck.

Although I don't think anyone was being mean on purpose, just not thinking that's a real person behind the effort.

If there was anyone on this board that I could hope would understand my desire for function over form, it would be you...so obviously there is no hope for my efforts.

i wasnt bashing in my original post if you cant take a little critisism then dont post pictures on a forum asking what people think

if done right i agree it could look good, and i agree function over form but there's a point that crosses the line...

this was my impression too.i just figured you were asking a question.
some others were getting a little ridiculous, though.it was bandwagon time.

exactly, it was constructive critisism instead of the stupid stuff that others posted
