I like the look of the older Gen 1 grill, headlights. Is it possible to swap the gen1 front clip onto the gen2 truck? I've seen posts where the core support needs to be modified to put a gen2 clip on a gen1 truck. Is the same true to do the opposite?

Also, i have a 1990 supercab, with non sliding rear window. LMC isn't real clear on the rubber glass surround for it. Are the supercab rear windows and regular cab windows the same?

here is what u do go to the top right corner and search it has been done. i know ur new and probably dont even know about the search function but trust me its very useful

I did use the search function, and it took me here. Where you posted an ass hole remark instead of helping. A link would be nice.

So it took you to this one post? Just this one? Huh? When I searched for it it showed me 15 pages along with this one post. Not just this one.

Granted the guy is new and needs his answers, but searching the forums will get him the answers he seeks.

Your post makes you look like the azz......not him!

I'll help again http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/search.php

The search function here isn't very helpful. I searched for tailgate skins, returned zero results. Am i to assume not one member has installed a tailgate skin?

I'm not too sure exactly what needs to be done as I just made my swap fit enough to hang it on my race truck. I think swapping core and fender supports would be the best. There are 29 spot welds that hold each fender support to the cab. When I rolled the truck and went back to 2nd gen core I did notice that the fender support bolt holes don't line up on the fenders on every hole between the two years. I never used the lights and made my own mount system for the grill so can't comment on fitment between the two.

As far as the window rubber seals, I have no personal experience. But I can't think of why ford would make two different window sizes for what is essentially the same cab, but who knows the mind of the engineers and bean-counters.

I doubt that would be the case, it may be buried in a build thread. It may be better to start a new thread with "replacing tailgate skin ?" as the title of your new thread.
Good luck,

Richard

Should just be the core support that needs to be replaced. The inner fenders should be close enough to work fine. That said it may be easier to swap both core support and inner fenders as an assembly if you have access to a complete donor truck. Along with the core support the first gen head lamp buckets, hood, fenders, rock guard/valance (little panel below grill), and other goodies will be required.

The LMC truck catalog I have sitting in front of me very clearly shows that they do not sell the solid rear window rubber for a 90 model super cab. That said they do show the sliding glass rubber to be the same for both standard and super cab, so I imagine that the same would hold true for the solid window.

Really? I ran a search for tailgate skins and it gave me 26 results. Granted those 26 results may not have held what you were looking for, but it was 26 results all the same. If you got no results that were what you were looking for then yes, I think you can assume that not one member here has installed one. I caution you though that you may be making as ass out of your self if you do so.

Keep in mind TRS is the home of the lifted off-road Ranger crowd (although the newer mall krawlers prefer R-F). While there may be a few lowered (or otherwise) street trucks here, this site caters to the off-road crowd. They are the people who would be more likely to remove the tailgate (or bed) in favor of a spare tire carrier, than they are to shave the gate or handle. I think this site is the best for most things engine, drive train, and offroad suspension. For lowered, cosmetic, and street I usually go to RPS.

I was able to flip the handle and installed the new tailgate skin. Thanks for the input on the front end, now to try and locate good solid fenders.

This is an '89 ( Gen 2) with Gen 1 fenders and hood. Obviously I didn't mount the Gen 1 grille, so I didn't have to deal with mounting the headlight buckets. The grille on my truck is a '61 Ford F100 with 14 inches cut out of it :icon_welder:
