Has anyone but Gen 2 door panels on Gen 1 doors?

Can it be done?

I just bought a set of panels from 1badexplorer mostly because I want the PW/L switches on them, but they happen to match my interior colors and look to be in better shape than my current ones (plus they'd let me put door speakers in). So can it be done?

It looks in the picture like they come the whole way up to the window, but the top 2" or so of my door is metal, and I think its structural to the door.

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys.

I think so. You may have to change the lower window seal on the inside though to work with the different panel; but maybe not. Look them over and try it out. :icon_thumby:

Yeah, I guess that's ultimately what it comes down to, I was just hoping someone here had done it already and knew what I'd run into.

The interior door panels are actually one of the few things I've never had apart on this truck, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm getting into with this either.

Come to think of it, the last time those panels were off may very well have been at the factory.

I don't believe so...

The fact that you have the short door panels (leaving exposed metal at the top)
isn't relevant, there were full length panels in gen1 trucks.
The door latch handle is different if not located differently and the
attachment of the panel to the door (for the integrated arm rest
which is used to pull the door closed) is also different.

As for the speaker, the panel has a speaker grille, but it's the door that the speaker is mounted to and the door structure is different.

I simply swapped gen2 doors onto my Gen1 truck.

That may be my best option anyway. There was a material defect on my driver's side door that caused the paint to bubble off and the the metal around the lower mirror mount point to pit. Badly.

The other door is damaged now too due to a run in with a guard rail a few years ago.

Just went ahead and bought the whole doors. This thread can be closed/deleted now if you want.
