Gen 1 Standard Cab Install

lol watch out for that. some will turn the ant wire off when you switch to cd mode.

good to know. i do know that all the power antena wire is used for, is to send a signal to one of the those power antena's that go up and down. its like a switched 12v wire.

okay, hope i did this all right (no electrical knowledge really...)

both on the 200m setting on my DVM:
-11.8 on the yellow wire (wait... a negative number?? what the heck haha)
and on the red it climbs moderately to quickly up to 180 or so and then switches to just 1 and stays there (is this like maxed out or something?)

grounded my ground on a dash bolt

put the red and yellow wires together, and now i've got sound after like 4 days of no sound!! so nice to hear it again.... love the fact that i feel like i can tell a difference just by the head unit... love the HPF too! it gets plenty loud, and with a fill in from my sub here in a week or so (HOPEFULLY!) it should sound perfect, for right now!

awsome man, glad to hear its working again. i got mine finished up yesterday and im loving it! what all is left to do till your all set up?

1) drill out the screws on my door sill plates
a) buy new screws
b) run power cable on drivers side, RCA's and remote on passenger side
2) mount sub and amp
a) includes terminal cup
3) carpet or paint the box (can't decide if i want textured paint or carpet)
4) decide if i want to hook up some simple LED's somewhere to beat with the music (idk where i would put them)

no specific order

however, new problem arose with the head unit:
it doesn't seen to be keeping the memory... the door ding works now, and so does the dome light, but when i turn my truck off and then turn it back on, all the settings are off again and it goes into demo mode instead of starting... what's going on??

when you turn your truck off the HU is receiving no juice causing it to reset to factory default. Had that happen to me in my old SAAB, was a pain in the @$$

also, once i turn my truck off, my dome light and door chime don't work anymore...

what could this be?? remember, my red and yellow wires are capped together, if that makes any difference...

also i didn't like sand the metal for the ground or anything, should i have?

you should have sanded but if its working then you got your grounding ok.

also. you need to unhook the red and yellow. ones. one is the consent 12v that lets you keep your pre sets ect. and the other is for turning the hu on. they go to two separate place. on the good side you haven't killed anything like this but youll never have pre sets untill you do.

it only works when they are put together... i had a friend looking at it, and he took off the nuts for both of those, and then touched them together and it turned on. (that was with the truck running)

ok

well this set up works but its not 100% correct. but its not a fire hazard.

but the yellow is your battery when the truck is off you should have 12v to it so you need to test for that. and it goes to the

the red on is your acc. it should only show 12v when the truck is on.

if your not getting this then you need to trouble shoot it.

did you pop a fuse during install???? bad wire? bad connection?

the red and yellow wires should be matched from the truck harness to the HU harness.

the pics are a lil fuzzy and odd coloring just double check to make sure your dealing with the 12v con, and the 12v acc. if you have them function as they should with the truck on and off and there hooked up right then its into the HU with your problem.

if you want when you go to open it up. and look. pm me ill give you my number and walk you thur it.

looking at the pictures you posted earlier you have the yellow on the HU harness connected to the yellow on the adapter, and the red on the HU connected to the red on the adapter, so by all rights it should work and save your settings, unless you changed something since the pics were taken. ( i pulled up the manual on the HU to verify the wire colors and function, but i cant seem to find the manual/ diagram for the adapter being used (scosche?) so im not entirely sure about which color is 12v constant and 12 ignition, the best bet is to use your dvom and do some testing)

i was thinking the same thing. standard is yellow is 12v con red is 12v acc.

thats what it looks like in the pic sooo something had to be changed.

okay... did some testing, but first off here is the list of relevant wires according to the harness adapter packaging:

12 volt iginition/acc - Red
12 volt batt/memory - yellow

and here are the results i got from doing a variety of tests
(all tests were done on the "20" setting on DC volts, and all numbers were in general the highest number i saw, or a good mean)
battery (truck turned off) : 12.68
ignition off:
-----red-0
-----yel-.08
-----together-0
ignition in acc mode:
-----red-12.14
-----yel-1.06 (i ended up finding out that the screws that hold the plastic cover over my shifter had better grounding capabilities, just on this test though... was weird)
-----together-12.24
ignition in on mode (truck is running):
-----red-14.65
-----yel-varies like crazy, highest i saw was 1.05
-----together-14.7
