Not a chance it'll be a D35.

4.10's in D28's were very common.

There was never a 4.10 D35 TTB released from the factory. The D35/D28 hybrid was but we all know it's still a D28 center section.

actually the Dana 35's were put in 4 cylinder Rangers.......there were some Dana 28's still, but there were also Dana 35's...

you can also look at the 3.0 4wd Rangers for a Dana 35 w/ 4.10 gears...

He found one at a wrecking yard (95 X-cab 4x4 3.0) with 4.10s but it was a 28/35 hybrid.

as far as i know the hybrids were in the gen 3 trucks, look in late 89 to 92 trucks.the 4.10 pig in my truck came from a 1990 4x4 4 banger.its pretty easy to tell the difference between a tiny R&P(d28) and one thats just small (d35).there are people who swear that d35's only came in 4.0l trucks but its not the rule just the norm.why would you care what is said here anyway kitty kat?i've read your posts calling this one of the worst rbv sites.

Yep, no such thing as a D28-anything during the '91, and '92 model years (and part of '90).

ANY '91 or '92 4x4 truck came with a real genuine D35 (this includes all 4cylinder ones, in which 4.10 was rather common). Being only in production a little under 2½ years (and only on some 4-cyl & 2.9L autos) is what makes them rare overall. They are infact out there though.

maybe its just the region i live in(nasty mountain roads not socal freeway driving) but all four of the 4x4 2.3l trucks at the local wreckers are 4.10 geared.the only 4.10 2.9l truck i've seen was an auto and i would say it is a rare combo compared to the four cylinder 4.10 option.

91 ranger 4x4 4.0l 5spd about 150 on the clock 33's 4.56's I got a avg of 17mpg with mixed. avg speed on freeway for me is 75-80. tach pretty much sits at 3gs all the time.I live in a area that has lots of hills and long grades.

if you you gear it right back to stock, your going to make the motor work alittle harder to keep the tires rolling on long grades.as big tires weigh a bit more than the tiny stocks.

anouther thing to keep in mind is where you live,if you live in a state were a speed bump is your biggest hill 4;10 would proably be a better choice, but if you live where you have alot of hills, and grades etc 4.56's are a better choice...just my take on the subject

OK I am comencing a 4" susp and a 3"bdy on my 91" 4.0 5spd. I have a used set of 31x10.50 i'll start with but i know the best look will be 32's or 33's. My truck has something like 3.45's? A buddy of mine has 4.10's out of a 2000 explorer 8.8 31 spline, now mine is an 8.8 28 spline anyone think it'll work?

Are you talking about swapping the axle or swapping the gears? If you are talking about swapping the axle, go for it. If you are talking about swapping the gears, I would honestly hold out for a set of 4.56's. Having gears changed will run you anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500. Do it once and do it right...

Dude, on what planet are you spending $1000-1500 for a gear swap?

90-92 4banger 4x4s had them. There's one sitting in my driveway that will be giving me it's 4.10 D35, and it's not a hybrid... Hybrids started in 93.

Yo,
yeah, around here $1000-$1500 is about right for labor on both axles, gears, and install kits.
