hey, just bought a 93 ranger with a 4.0 5 spd. with 3.23. would i be able to put 31's or possibly 33's on it without being hellishly slow? i would prolly have to regear it for maybe 4.10's or 3.73's. just would like some input

I have 33's on an exploder with 3:73's and it does ok but 4:10 would be better.

3.73's would be better than 3.27's anyday!

4.56's would be ideal for 33's.

3.73's will be ok with 31's/32's and be alot easier to get ahold of ready to bolt in and ALOT cheaper.

Dude, you should already be on 3.73s.

well i ain't ever heard of a 3.23 gear...

so i'm guessing you've already got 3.73, just slipped up on reading the number off the tag eh?

hey, just looked at my axel code on the rear diff. it says i have 3.27's. i also looked at the door sticker and the code was 91 so it's 3.27's. my new question is how hard is it to bolt on a new axle? or would it be cheaper to re gear it? i', talking ease of installing and price wise

if i put 31's on the current set up what would it stress? remember that this is a 5 spd. with 172,xxx on it. what would be the outcome?

Clutch & transmission mainly, but the engine won't really like it either (your MPG will also go into the crapper).

3.27 is already way too tall even with the little P235 tires (I wish I knew what Ford was thinking when they put such a tall gear into a vehicle having an overdrive transmission  ).

right now i got the stock 3.55s on my ranger with 33s and my mileage went from 19mpg to 12.5 mpg. it has the 4.0 with a dogomatic.

dont know if it's really worth it to do a 350$ regear job on both axles and then put the 33's for gosh knows how much then a lift kit when it already has 173xxx on it. i know they go for awhile but i think that would be puttin the last nail in the coffin

The regear is to avoid that last nail lol.

I've seen many guys do the same on trucks with 250,xxx or even more miles. If you want to have fun with it (or in your case just have the thing be drivable), some $$$ into it is going to be required.

Don't mean to thread jack but how do you figure that out? cause all mine says is (10 88 4709 / V330L)?
Again did not mean to thread jack! but i could not help out of wanting an answer.
