gear question

Okay so I just traded my 92 ford ranger for an 86 ford ranger that is a 4wheel drive and has a 2.9 liter motor in it and has a 4 speed overdrive tranny in it. I put a set of ford explorer 15 inch wheels with 235x75xr15 tires on it. I need to know what ratio gears the truck has because I want to lower the gear ratio so that I can pull trailers better with it.

if someone could tell me what kind it has or where to look to find out what gears it has i would appreciate it

Find it yourself! Jack up one back tire and mark that tire and the driveshaft with chalk or something. Now with it in neutral turn the tire one exact turn while counting the turns of the driveshaft. You will have 3.07, 3.5, 3.73, 4.10 or 4.56 turns and that is your ratio.
Or perhaps even something different...but that is the correct way to find out.

i look in to my crystal ball and it says.......look at the damn axle tag. and if it doesn't have one do wut he^^^ said. otherwise we can't help you they came with different ratios. a improvement on that one will be 4.30 gears fo sho atleast.

I think ALLAND once said that there were generally 2 ratios 3.73 and 4.10, and most 4x4 were 4.10.
