I have a 1995 ford ranger 4cyl and the gauges are one by one going out. 1st was the fuel gauge then the temp. and now both the odometer and the trip have gone out. any advice on how to fix or replace... The door-a-jar "DING" won't go off either need help!

i would say the gauges failing are probably unrelated to one another...but just in case, always start with the easy stuff first...such as checking for blown fuses.

next, i'd check sending units for both the fuel and temp gauges.

does your speedo still work? is your ABS light on? for the odo/tripo problem i would say its probably a failed VSS, but if thats the case it should take out your speedo as well and possibly trip the ABS light.

the door dinger failing to shut off is due to a sticky door switch. the switch is attached to the inside of the door latch, inside the door. you can try hosing it down with some lube (try to spray it down inside the latch)...but if that doesnt free it up you'll have to pull the door panel off and free it up by hand.

well the speedo, oil, batery, gauges are the only ones left that still work. The ABS light isnt on either.

heres something i never thought of....your odometer and trip are both "mechanical", right? (they have numbers that "roll over" rather than a digital display). if the speedometer is electrically driven (im pretty sure it is in that year), i wonder what drives the odometer? thats something i never thought of before. obviously whateer drives it has failed.

for the temp. and fuel, you need to get a DVOM on the senders and see what kind of readings you get.

I have the same prob with my 96 2.3 My gas gauge is sits on empty all the time so i use mpg's for that i am planning on pulling off the bed in the spring when the weather is better then replacing the fuel pump and sending unit. My door dinger does the same thing i have tried lubing the door switch and that didnt work for my what i have been told about it is that it could be the ignition switch as well. Mine does is off and on but somedays its an all day thing every time you drive the truck.

ya mine dings whenever it sits in hot temps. but when its cold oustide it doesnt ding at all. does your check engine light come on for the EGR valve because i have replaced and reset the light but a couple days later it came right back on with the same problem.

Do you mean the guages themselves or the lighting?

My check engine light is always on.....Seems anythng i do it stays on replaced egr, tps o2 sensors. We have narrowed it down to the o2 sensors from what we can tell. I cant keep them in the truck. I put new ones in and reset system it goes off then a cpouple of days later back on again.

my day once had this problem in his truck, after 2 weeks he had lost all of his guages. turned out to be a short in the wires to his trailer plug. he disconnected the harness and all was well.
