Gasoline leak after filling up tank fully

Hi im very new to owning a ranger, I just bought a 94 about 2 months ago for household chores/wood working. The truck came to me with half tank of gas, and I just refilled it with a full tank. After filling up fully, the gas started leaking from the drivers side/middle of the truck.

I’m going to take it to a mechanic on Monday but just freaking out a bit. Any thoughts on what this could be? Also, how dangerous?

When the tank was half full, I noticed a few drops of oil on my driveway after driving, but it was nothing significant.

sounds like the filler neck/hose is bad or the inlet for the tank.

There could be several causes for that. A dry-rotted or split rubber filler hose; a crack or split in the plastic gas tank itself; or a bad fuel pump gasket or evap fitting.

The filler hose is the usual suspect.

I'd pull, or prop up, the bed to get at all of those. But with a northern truck, you're likely to be fighting rusted fasteners whichever way you go at it.

Gas leaks are dangerous; but not filling it up until it's repaired will at least let you keep using the truck. Just be careful and use common sense.

It's for sure the filler neck, a pretty easy fix. The one on my '97 was shot when I got it, ordered a replacement that was wrong so wrapped it with some pipe wrap tape and well that was like 4 years ago now and it works fine

It says you're in Mass, I'd suspect rust on top of the tank where dirt and road salt like to sit if you have a steel tank. My 93 had a plastic tank at one time, if yours is plastic it's likely a hose or the seal on the sending unit.
Don't park on pavement until you get it fixed, gas turns asphalt into sticky black goo.

The first ranger I bought had dual tanks. The first time I filled both tanks there was gas coming from under the truck at the pump... No choice, I drove home and I had a trail of gas following me 3 blocks home. There was no fuel pump in the rear tank so there was a 6" hole on top.
