OK, I've done a bit of searching, and couldn't find sufficient information on the subject. I have the truck in my sig with a Supercab. I love the truck, but it has one minor, aggravating issue that I've been dealing with for a few years. There is no float in the gas tank.
I actually bought a brass one a few years ago, but the attachment method I used (steel wire) didn't work.
My question is . . . how do you replace a missing float? Since I never took the unit apart when it was working (original fuel pump), I don't really know what it the original was supposed to look like, and what material it was made of. I hear there were foam floats, brass floats and plastic floats.
I know that the easiest, if not most expensive, way to fix the problem is to buy a new fuel pump assembly. Since the pump works, I can't justify spending $150 on a new assembly. At that price, I'll just get gas when the odometer reads 325 miles (or the engine starts sputtering, like it did yesterday, when the odo read 355
)
Are there any tricks that work that can be had for around $5 - $15? Or, is there anyone out there making these things? The last time I went to a dealer, they told me that the only way to get the float was with a complete assembly.
Any help would be appreciated. I know we lost a lot of information with the server issue, so I would imagine this information existed at one point in time, and just hasn't been brought up again. Thanks for looking.
