Recently purchased an 03 Ranger 4 x 2; ext cab; 300, 6 cylinder motor. I have gotten about 300 kms with a 1/4 of a tank left. Does this sound about right for city driving.
:icon_confused:

It does sound a little low (about 12 mpg)...when you fill up again, make sure you check your actual fuel mileage from a full tank to the next fill. Sometimes the gas gauges are incorrect.

I'd love a ranger with a 300 six cylinder, where'd you find yours?'

on a more serious note, instrumentation is everything when you're going for good emmm pee geeez

You silly Canadians and your metric. JK. :icon_rofl:

But 12mpg does sound kind of low. Even for a 4.0 Auto 4WD. Unless you're rodding on it really hard.

i get about 400-440 km to 53 litres. which is about 12.6L per 100km's

i think thats darn good!

Found an interesting tidbit of info while borrowing my buddys diagnostic tool. My truck was averaging 3-4mpg less then normal, I'm talking a dismal 15mpg on the hwy on cruise. But, after paying attention to the sensor readouts I found the drag and weight on my truck puts it at approx. 85% load at 110-115kph on fairly flat ground. When I bumped the speed upwards of 115kph (high load rating = rpm/TP/speed) the computer went from a close loop reading sensor outputs into a 'drive' mode, where it runs off of different fueling tables.

I went 325-340km from full to E light, and I now have 385km on this tank with a 1/4 left, just going by the guage.... When I fill-up tomorrow, I should have some proper data and can tell you what a difference it makes...

*** And thats working on an average 70L fill-up. ***

So, did the mileage on the last two tanks, all hwy back to back. I went from 15.3-18.8mpg by simply slowing down enough the engine programming stayed in 'closed loop' mode.

Approx:

Before - 323km - 70L

After - 417km -62L

Thats on cruise at a steady 110km/68mph, fairly level ground (no hills that I couldn't stay in fifth, just gotta speed a lil at the bottom) and unloaded. But ya, it does decent for 8" lift and 37's....all while weighing slightly over 5k lbs with 2 people.
