Gas mileage

Hello? Back on topic here.....it is my daughters truck and not sure what kind of mileage she is getting but she said she fills it several times a week and she only drives 40 miles round trip to work and home so this sounds bad. When I bought the truck it was getting 16mpg, that means she would be using a little over 2 gallons a day for work so a tank should last a while.
The plugs are new, the tires are new, the brakes are new, lots of new stuff on it except for the fuel filter, could that impact the mileage that much? I have the filter, not sure where it goes, is it in the back by the gas tank?

a clogged filter can have an impact on mileage. id replace it, their cheap. it is mounted inside the frame rail right below the drivers door.

you need to actually figure out the fuel economy of the truck. "seems low" isnt good enough. perhaps shes doing a lot of extra driving with her friends, or perhaps the fuel guage is off causing her to fill it before its actually empty. it could be getting well within its range for mileage still.
