I have a 1985 Bronco II 4x4 2.8 5spd stock gearing as far as I know 30/10.50/15 tires I'm only getting about 16 mpg is this about right. What is everyone else getting? Thanks hende

i have 4.10's, 2.9, auto with 31's and i get about 16-17

I have an 86 2.9 B2 4x4 with 29" tires and factory everything and I calculated mine up to about 22 mpg. I have seen some on here say they are getting 25+ mpg which I think is exaggerated a little much for a 4wd. The thing that kills your gas mileage in my experience is when you drive over 60 mph. In mine I keep it at 2000 rpms which for me is about 58 mph and I get 22 mpg.

These trucks were built in an era where the speed limit was 55 MPH. Therefore they are tuned to run at those engine speeds that'll get you there. I've seen over 25 MPG on a 2.9. Its great. But they are also old. If you get 16 or 17. You are doing good

thats the other thing I drive it like grandpa lolo I keep it under 2500 on rpms. And dont think I have had it over 60 lol

well 16-17 mpg is probably about right for your B2... yeah the big thing for gas mileage is rpms you could be going 150mph but as long as your rpms stay low you should be getting decent gas mileage

I'd be happy with that mileage and a 2.8. My old Bronco II with a 2.9, A4LD, 6" lift, 33" tires and 4.10 gears got approximately 9-10.

My '86 Ranger, in completely stock form with the 2.9, FM145 and 3.45 gears got 26 on the highway. I really miss that. I'm not even hitting 20 with the 2.3 in my '96. :annoyed:

I had a 84 2.8L and had 235/75/15s on it and a 3.73 rear end and got 17 in city 21/hwy.Now on my 88 I get 20mpg combined and as high as 25mpg with a tailwind with 780lbs. of cargo weight.
