Gas Mileage On Rangers Question

i got a 94 ranger 2.3 5 speed and before i fixed my motor mounts, x member , transmission mount, put new plugs and wires, air filter as well on it i would drive it every 20 miles a gallon of gas. (fuel gauge dont work)
the motor sat so far up that the compressor was literially hitting the upper radiator hose and the rubber in the mounts were literially gone. and my x member was bent pushing the engine forward and transmission mount was gone as well. dont know how it drove to this day.... ( can take pictures for funny if anyones interested)

yes you all can say poor neglected ranger but after fixing the motor mounts brand new transmission mount and x member as well as new plugs wires air filter and a mobil oil change it seems to have given me some oddly increase in gas mileage which im believing might be close to 30mpg.

i filled my truck up literially to the fuel neck and have been driving it for the past week or so and have aquired almost 400 miles on the tank so far and when i prime the fuel line when turning the key i cant hear the fuel pump whisteling low fuel yet.

how many miles to a full tank does 2.3 rangers with almost 200k miles on it usually get you think?? im thinking i might get 500 miles outta this beast before i run out.
im also carrying a 1 gallon cell in the back when i do so i am not stranded haha.
also this is a stock ranger with no aftermarket parts, no k&n filters nada!!

When I got my '95 XL 2.3L it had a lil over 102k. I ONLY replaced the air filter with one of those reuseable K&N knock offs by Fram. My MPG was 26 city and ruffly 32 highway.
If my memory is correct in the '70's the FED's passed legislation stating that any manufactured vehicle made after 19XX(?) had to at least get 300 miles to a tank.

dam, thats good!!
i need to work on mine a little more to reach that then ill be a happy camper haha

Anyone have an idea why my 95 5sp 2.3L w/98k only gets 18mpg consistently?

yea this thread makes me sad. my 96 2.3L gets 18-22mpg, or about 370-400 miles on about 19 gallons. running on 225/70/14s, no lift, 5spd.

i think i may have an exhaust leak and i know my gas filler neck leaks, cuz when i fill up all the way, a bunch of gas drips onto the ground from the tank, but if i dont fill up all the way, it doesnt leak.

could that gas leak cause a drop in fuel economy?

Gas?? :icon_confused:

I think the last time I had gas in my Ranger was after eating a burrito at Taco-Bell...

dam, nice work there!! how much that costing ya?
ive read people that do that conversion solve the somewhat of a charging issue by supposendly running a big alternator off the driveshaft, like they knotched a driveshaft out to take a belt and hooked it to an big alternator that wired out to the batterys and i guess it prolongs the life of it.
you doing that as well?
