I have the 2.3 SOHC... And im not lying when I say I get 16 miles to the gallon on the freeway. Stock tire size, k&n... no bells or whistles.

Anyone else have this problem?

Well, first of all, have you done a tune-up? As for power, the 2.3L is always lacking in that department. You should be able to get around 21-23 mpg city, 24-28 mpg highway.

No, It has 250k on it... But heres the funny thing, it was getting fine gas mileage for a while. I would get aroung 440 miles to the tank. and now Im only getting 330 miles to the tank. And that started happening when I let the dealer touch it for several reasons.

So I dont know if Its lacking a well needed tune up, or if its the dealer.

Actually, Come to think of it I dont know why I included "power" in the title. I know that the 2.3 is a dawg.

:agree:

For gas mileage range. I usually average about 350-400 after last quarter full. Or about 400-500 miles highway after last quarter full (500 miles if the entire tank is highway and let run to reserve).

If you still can, ask to see what the dealer touched on the engine. It could be they left something undone or disconnected.

Have you actually measured your gas millage or are you judging based off of your fuel gauge

Many engines last for many miles, but not all. 250K is a lot of miles.

I agree you may need to do a tune up and clean you fuel injectors out.

I actually think thats where I would start. I talked to one of my customers today about that and I think Ill take the truck to The Good Guys. They got a chem injector two stage cleaning for less than a hundred bucks.

I have a 94 2.3 with 104k on it, and I'm getting anywhere from 16-20 MPG with 33 in tires and 4.56. I agree with the tune up, I noticed a difference in mine after doing a good tune up. I was getting around 12-14 before i replaced plugs, wires, and a few other odds and ends. I just swapped the mech fan for an electric so we will see if that changes anything
