Ok Guys, On my 94 ranger 4 cyl regular size bed. When ya fill it with gas, it doesn't leak anywhere until it gets completely full. Then it leaks out a cup full or less. Gets great gas mileage an you can never smell gas anytime ecept when it overflows

Is there something somebody didn't hookup there or what. It doesn't leak any other time except then. Kinda like once it hits full, what ever is in the neck leaks out. I just don't feel like pulling the bed if possible.

This is very common on Rangers. It's the filler hose. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago. You can get the hose on Ebay for about 33 dollars.

Here's a link to them on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Here's what it does - It cracks and the fuel leaks when it's full:

Here's my new hose I installed:

Do you hafta remove the bed to change it?

Thanx
Ron

Yes. It's very easy if you have someone to help though. There are 6 bolts that hold the bed and 3 screws that hold the filler pipe up that need removed. Then just unplug the tail light harness and you're in. It took me 2 hours to do the filler pipe and fuel pump - and part of that time was waiting for my Brother to get to my house to assist in lifting.

My fix until I got to it was not filling it up all the way. LOL

Also, one other thing that helped was we didn't entirely remove the bed. I got it up in the air and realized my mud flaps were connected to the bed, so we sat it on the rear tires and the bumper. It gave me about 20 inches or so to get in there and do it. Which was plenty of room.

Thanx Feller, I'll hafta get some help, I am 60 an need oxy most of the time. Whats bad is I did this stuff all my life an can't hardly do anything now. I see why a lot of old people die now. They can't keep making themselves useful anymore.

My main summer hobby is restoring old wheel horse garden tractors, an N scale model trains in the winter

Again, Thank You for your help

No problem, I wish I was closer so I could help you!

Hey Toolman, I wish I could help

The bed only needs to go up about 2 to 3 feet. I simply used a piece of steel in the bed, some chain and an overhead. But you could do the same thing with an engine lift.

I'm also not a young kid and lifting the bed was not something I wanted to do.

Haha.....I have the same color paint you do with the pinkish/purpleish an blue pinstripe like yours. My mechanic buddy makes fun of the striping, says it looks kinda queer to him. I told'em to talk to the guy at ford that come up with that combo of colors if he didn't like it......
Wish I had enough striping to redo my pass. door. The rest of the striping an paint is perfect.

I'll just pay my body work friend to put the tank neck on for me. It probably won't take him an hour or so to do it. He has a big lift an him an his help can just set the bed on some saw horses.

Thanx for all yer help an support fellas.

I don't get on ebay so where can i get one of these that doesn't cost over $400? That is what the Ford Dealer quoted me. I noticed mine was getting bad when I replaced my fuel pump this weekend. I see they are just shy of $200 at LMC. Wow!! Why are these so high?!:shok:

Last time I checked, Rockauto.com had filler neck hoses for around $90 I think it was. I'm sure some of the auto parts chain stores could get them too, though I don't know what their prices would be.

I had the fuel filler neck go bad on my 00 Explorer.... No local parts stores carried it, they all told me it was a Ford only part. I ended up getting mine from a guy in MO (I think) who's been parting out 20 or so 95-01 Explorers for the last 5 years. He's on explorerforum.com.. I'll find the link.
