Gas guage not working...

Hey guys, I'm new to trucks in general and I was hoping someone might be able to help me out here.

I recently bought a 1996 Mazda B2300 and the gas guage does not work. It always stays on "E" and therefore the check guages light is on...

Any ideas?

Check the wires on the top of the tank. If you can get them off get a manual and find the wire that controls the gas guage. Ground it out to see if the guage goes full, if it does the sender is bad. If you can't get to the wires then drop the tank and check it too. But if you drop the tank and it needs a sender you might as well replace the fuel pump too.

My '92 had this same issue. Turned out the aluminum float can, in the tank, had a hole in it and was filling with fuel. It sunk to the empty position and stayed there. Changing the float solved the problem.
