We have a Garmin Street Pilot c330 version 5.01 GPS and my dad wanted me to update the maps so i went to the Garmin site and instead of updating the maps it has seemed to erase everything on it. Now when i turn it on it just says at the top "system software missing" and Street Pilot. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I just did a search on " Garmin GPS screen just reads "system software missing"" and it appears that this is common when updating...you may be able to reset the original settings by following the instructions in the user manual (According to your manual it says to hold finger on bottom right hand side of screen while turning the unit on.Keep finger down until pop up screen appears and touch yes to clear all data and all orginial settings will be restored.Page 13.) but if that doesn't work...you may need to contact the manufacturer...

I just tried that and it didn't work. I guess we'll try to give the garmin folks a call. thanks for searching for that. I did search around some and didn't really come up with anything helpfull.

My Magellan recently weirded-out during a firmware update...

Even though I never "registered" it and had lost the original receipt they gave me an RMA to swap it for a reconditioned one.

There are some subtle differences between the model I shipped them and
the one they gave back

the original had "internal" map data, and the card slot was covered by a peel off tape.
So I backed up my adress book before sending it off.

Unfortunatly the new one has a map card that I can't remove without the unit going all "lobotomy" on me...

So I get to re-entire my entire adress book.
