Question...

On our house we have a Wayne Daulton insulated garage door. It's a really expensive door and works great.

However, there was a gap around the edges that allowed light through when closed... so it obviously allowed air through also.

I got some rubber weatherstrip from work and installed it on the inside of the wood jam so the garage door pushes into it when it closes.

It sealed up the light/air issue, but now when I hit the automatic door opener, and it first pulls up on the door the whole top door panel...well...for lack of a better term shutters... Like it's having to pull up a little harder than it should. I don't want the door to break from jerking around more than it should.

Will this hurt anything? Or should I pull the stripping back off and try and find something smaller.

Surely there has to be something to seal the gaps.

The only thing there now is the finger strip that just touches the outside of the garage door and it attached to the outside trim.

If you need pics, let me know..lol

The white part with the nails is the flap trim that was on there.

The black strip is what I added.

Try lubricating the rubber where it rubs on the door.

Good idea..

How much of a gap is there between the white seal and the door when closed?

None.. It touches the door, but obviously it's not sealing as well as it could. With the rubber there it forms a TIGHT seal on the door... too tight as it seems!

Six of one -- Half dozen of the other!:annoyed:

Maybe pull off the rubber and put some foam based weather stripping on there. It will allow it to seal better but compress down quite a bit. I put some around the door at my house and it made a world of a difference.

Instead of the rubber in that location, you might have used a sweep...a very long sweep...they attach to the door itself along the inside edge....and usually close off any air/heat leaks...

But lubrication of the rubber might help...it's just best to use something like silicon spray that won't loose too much lube properties in the extreme cold...

Most GDO's have some type of up and down force adjustments on the backside.Lube the chain and track.Your GDO should be able to lift any door with no problems.
