I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!! My driver seat has an extreme lean on the right side causing the right side lean back i dubbed Gansta' lean. Looks like it belongs in a buick or something. Anyways is there a way to fix this? What could be the problem? Ya i know I could just get seats from a parts yard but my local yard is ran by idiots and they crush everything! :annoyed: I really dont wanna drive 2hrs to vegas for a seat either so I have to figure it out. My old stepdads b2 had the same problem so Im hoping its common and fixable. I have seriously considered cutting a 2-by and propping between the back of the cab and the seat Im so desperate. My back cant take much more abuse. Please help!

Anyone? Someone has to have had this problem or at least can give me info bout seat construction?

If you pull the upholstered part off the back of the seat (there is either a zip or clips at the bottom). the steel part of the seat back is probably broken in a few places. bend the pieces back to where they should be and then re-weld everything.

ok so its just 1 peice going up the side of the seat. ok. I will try to take it apart and see what i can come up with. Thanks:icon_thumby:

I know lol. I looked at that exact page didnt help. But I understand why you think Im an ignorant noob so its ok:icon_twisted::icon_thumby:

Unzipped the seat today. didnt see or feel any broken parts of metal. Im gonna try and pull the seat apart tomorrow and check it out. That is if I dont get distracted and mount my front bumper.:D If all else fails ill swap passenger and driver seats as temperary fix.:icon_thumby:

I didn't mean it to be condescending, your seat is probably broken at the hinge on the bottom. The locking mechanism or the hinge or both is broken or bent. You will most likely have to replace your seat so your best bet yould be find your nearest or cheapest junk yard and find a replacement. :icon_thumby:

I had that happen on my Tempo a few times...too much sex in the front seat will do that...so change your mating habits a bit and/or replace the seat with something stronger...maybe put a mattress in the bed and hump in there for the summer...lol

^ I've done that in my front split bench and never had a problem once. Also, I sometimes put the camper shell on and hump in there when we go camping.

No unfortunately you got to have a girl to do that.:bawling:
My problem was just a fat ass PO that jumped the truck alot.

The seatback is mostly composed of two stamped sheet metal Shells that are spot welded together.

There are a few critical reinforcements, but the real "weak link" is that the recliner mechanism only stops the outboard side of the seat from moving... this creates
a "Twisting" moment that has the end result that you are in possession of...

a lardass driver (or someone like me, 6'4" 300lb) and any kind of reptetive stress and the seatback fram bends back on the inboard side, and bending it back isn't always possible,
let alone practical.

I'd generally consider it a waste of time to fix the original seat and I'd simply go shopping for a pair of later seats, the seats used 1989-94 are simply nicer seats, particularly if you can track down a set of Explorer sport or Ranger STX seats.

IF you really want to take something apart and do any welding take apart the NEW (unbent)
seat and do your welding to reinforce it.

And there's something else I need to suggest... since you have a 1987 Supercab (Like me!)
there's a great upgrade you can do... you know that double slider seast track you have on the passenger side? How would you like one like it for the drivers side? it makes it a whole bunch easier to get stuff out of the back seat...

But there's a further mod to that track... on the inboard side there's a little steel cable that limits forward travel... remove it and when the track is released the seat will go all the way
to the steering column...

These drivers side "Double slider" tracks can be found in Rangers, Bronco2's and Explorer sports, but be careful sometime in mid 1991 Ford changed the floor and the later ttracks won't fit your floor.

Look around the site there's a list of seats that will more or less bolt directly to ranger tracks

Well from wht youre saying it MIGHT be possible to fix it. Thats good because as I stated before there isnt much of a selection in our junkyard(yes I said junkyard because its not worthy of "parts yard").
But I guess I will have to make the 60 mile round trip out of town and see if they have any seats that will bolt up but it prob wont be ranger seats as they have bout 2 or 3 gen1s(that are stripped) and maybe a 89-92 ranger and thats it.
Oh and that mod you talk about seems badass!
So for that do I get another passenger side track and mod it or mod the original driver side one?Dont know if the tracks are the same.
Thanks for the great advice and way to show some 87 super love:icon_thumby::headbang:

If you weren't in Nevada I would try to help you out by shipping you an unbent seat back, but shipping would be nightmarish from PA to NV
