Hey all,
I've an '03 FX4 level II with the manual tranny & transfer case. It does not easily shift into a gear other than 2H or N. 4H kinda goes in, and seems to work, but finding the notch (assuming there's a proper notch) is vague. I have yet to get 4L to engage. Also, the 4x4 dash lights do not turn on, either at start up or when attempting to engage.

I do have a B2 with the manual transfer case as well, so I know what it should probably feel like.

Any tips/suggestions?

Have you tried adjusting the linkage on it?

Not yet. I honestly wasn't sure where to begin. I'll crawl underneath and check it out. I assume its similar to the older BW1350?

I believe so. I've never had a manual shift 1354 so I'm not absolutely sure.

Adjusting is a bit fussy. I don't know about the older BW1350, so I don't know if they are the same. I tried using the adjusting method described in Ford Service manual and it did not work for me. I came up with a different approach but don't remember the details.

My transfer case was replace early in the warranty period. The dealer tried three time to get the linkage adjusted right and could not. I told them I would just do it myself.

Yes, they’re basically the same t-case and are adjusted the same.

Mine got funky but it was because the linkage came loose on the trans.

If the small bolt that screws into the extension housing gets loose, it will definitely let the linkage get out of adjustment. That is what is used to adjust the linkage. I think it is referred to as the cam plate locking bolt.

If the big bolt comes loose, it could allow side play in the cam plate and make the linkage feel kind of weird.

I think it was the small one but it has been many moons.

Awesome. Thanks. I will check that out.
