Fuel Tank

Filled my truck up today and gas started pouring out from the fuel tank (area) running down and off the skid plate. So I am assuming its either the sending unit or the tank its self since it stopped leaking after a couple seconds. My confusion lies in which tank I need. Alldata says my tank is a midship tank, while LMC lists a side mount tank here. I assume from the pictures they are one in the same.

My truck is an 87 STX supercab with a 6 foot bed.

Where is your fill point?? Just behind the cab?? or behind the rear wheels??
Pretty sure the shorter box like yours only came with the single tank, (Midship), the Long box may have a dual tank option.

Most likely the 2 that you referr to are one in the same...most that I have seen call it a midship tank

Most likely you don't need a new tank. Most leaks are in the filler hose.. Make sure to check that first.
Secondly look to the vent hoses and the cap over the float. Then after finding the leak you will know what to purchase or tighten.

The grommet around the vent valve was toast and the line going to the canister was disconnected. Ford had the grommet for 6 bux. I assume that the skid plate was acting like a bowl catching the gas and then eventually overflowed and that is why is looked like so much fuel leaking at once. Anyway did not have to drop the tank or pull the bed off, glad for an easy fix for once lol.
