not sure if this belongs in this section, but here goes:

when i first got my truck i didnt register it right a way since i had to do some work on it. after a while in my driveway, it ran dry and i put maybe 2 gallons worth of gas in it with a gas can. no problem. started right back up.

well, now that its registered and on the road, i went to the gas station to get "filled up" and the gas pump gave me 5 gallons and stopped. wtf?

well i figured something was wrong with the gas pump so i drove for a little bit and went to another station. this time it only took 3 gallons.

WTF? its a 17 gallon tank, right? i mean, how does something go "wrong" with a gas tank? its a hose that goes to a tank!

any ideas?

try to fill it out of a can. you evap system is probably plugged up which cuts the pump off.

the pump is designed to shut off when it senses a certain pressure coming from the tank.. and if you have a plugged vent in the fill tube it will shut off prematurely

Sounds to me like the filler hose is smashed shut a tad. We have a truck at work like that. I don't know how many fill ups i did just a lil a time. One day an ole cowboy told me to turn the gas nozzle upside down and try that. Not totally sure why or how, but it works fine like that!

hmmm... is there an evap hose that i can pull to allow pressure relief?

and im gonna try the upside down trick...

thanks alot guys
