Fuel Tank Woes

Had to drop my fuel tank, and now I am reinstalling it. I am having a bear of a time getting the vent hose back on. I am going to try lubing it up with some good ol Vaseline and try to work it in slowly.

Any other ideas in case this doesn't work?

i guess it kinda depends on how much room you are working with.. if you can sometimes i would gently us a flathead to work it around onto the end.

I thought the best way to get to the gas tank, was to remove the bed?

I'm going to have to do this soon. When filling with gas, it leaks right when it's full (the pump auto-shuts off) and I get gas spilling on the ground.

When sealing the hose, whats the best chemical to use?

I agree- I removed my bed when working on the fuel tank or pump. It made life 50 times easier.

How heavy is the bed? Can say four people lift it off?

I removed mine by myself. I laid a blanket next to the truck on the ground to minimize scratches to the bed and just flipped the bed over on it's side.

REMOVE THE BED. I had the exact problem you're having, and I checked TRS forums. Everybody said remove the bed, so I did. It made the job a breeze. I wish I had checked here sooner! I had already dropped the tank by that point.

You can remove the bed by yourself, but with 2 people it's easy.

shit iv removed and re instaled the tank on my 90 3 times and never had to remove the bed i am 6' 150 lbs tho

Pulling the bed is definitely way easier. And for getting the hose back on I'd try heating the rubber up (NOT WITH A TORCH!) using something like a hairdryer. Make it more maleable and easier to stretch.

That hose can't really be sealed with a chemical. Some jay JB Weld but I just ended up replacing the whole filler neck when I ran into this problem. www.1aauto.com is the only company I've found that carries these filler necks new.

The rubber seal comes off the vent so I cleaned it up, put it in the hole on top of the tank and the vent device popped right in. I feel like a dork for it being so hard.
