Whats up guys, just joined after searching google quite a bit :D

My 86 ranger 2wd single cab long bed has a fuel leak anytime I fill it up more than 1/2 tank. I have removed the bed and it is not the fuel neck as I have remove it and can see no crack or tears in it, which is a common problem as I have read here.

I have isolated the leak to the front of the sending unit, and metal retaining ring on the tank. I ordered a new rubber gasket and ring at autozone for 20 bucks and should be here thursday. is there any tips/tricks that I should know before swapping out the ring/gasket? Sorry for the long post..

Brian.

Make sure to clean it up good before starting the removal. It might be good to power wash it before the parts get here.
Then when it is apart make sure the seating surfaces are really clean before doing the install.
I'm thinking that gasket is a rare place for a leak. Perhaps you should investigate farther before taking it apart.

Gotcha, I power washed the top of the tank, and got a bunch of dirt and crap out of the top of the tank. I took of the sealing ring and the gasket looks like it has been replaced, teh ring was only about 50% on all the way, hopefully that fixed the leak, but we will see. Thanks for your help.

Filled it up with 16 gallons, and waaalaa! No leak so far! hit the brakes a few times and jumpe dout and no leaks. sweet. Slapped the bed back on after flipped my rear hangers and looks way better now. Thanks for the help TRS! The Tech Library helped quite a bit!.

lucky you...when I filled up my Bronco II for the first time it was leaking at the seam where the top and bottom halves are welded together. New gas tank.

I found the O-ring at the Ford dealer for under $5. It's also a good idea when installing it to put a light coat of grease on it to hold it in place. Glad ya got it fixed,I went through the same thing after changing my tank and sender.
