fuel tank from a 88 into a 94

will it work? my sending unit is junk in my 94 and the sending unit from the 88 wont go in the 94 tank so can i put the whole tank in there? i brought the tank home from my other ranger which is over at the other garage so its here by the ranger now but its dark and my flood lights are out so i cant really work in the dark anymore. the 88 tank is for a 2.9 and my 94 got a 3.0

88 2.9L sender won't work with a 94 3.0.

That is the low pressure pump from the dual pump system. It doesn't generate enough pressure for the engine to run. That pump makes about 5 PSI. You need 25 to 35 to run the 3.0 and there is no booster pump in that system.

Physically I think the tank will fit. They are different, but I think it will fit.

Throwing the whole tank in there doesn't solve your problem. You have a junk sending unit for the truck you are trying to make run, correct? Putting a unit that produces 1/4 to 1/7 of the fuel pressure you need won't make the engine run, regardless of what tank it's in.
 
ok never thought of that. what if i put the inline pump from the 88 in my 94 along with the 88 sending unit?
 
In theory it would work. The pressure would be there, if it's wired right (not hard to do). the real issue is the fab work for the fuel lines. By the time you go to all that time and effort you may as well have bought an airtex pump and been done with it.
 
i have lots(too much) experience with running new fuel lines/pumps. i dont it on my 88 b2, the 89, and the first 86 ranger. new lines from the tank to the motor its a stinky dirty job but it gets done. any idea how much those sending units go for for my truck?
 
Auto zone lists it for $100 USD

thanks. the original problem was a leak of gas i kept smelling but never found it, and when me and my buddy took off the pan i found that the steel peices that the lines run to on the sending unit, those were cracked so gas was coming out around there so it was no good. now i wish i tried to fix up that instead of screwing with it even more.. now she isnt mobile and it sucks lol
 
Oh yeah, that sux.

Gas resistant RTV and some light welding. Don't blow yourself up though.
 
wish i thought of that before i fired the sending unit in the woods. if only i had to count all the parts i threw in the woods. best thing about not having neighbours being able to do what i want where i want, wether its throwin stuff in the woods or startin up the 79 with open headers at 2am lol,, theres alot of stuff in the woods here from mufflers and sway bars off my b2, a fender for a gen 1 out there some where, a few radiators out there, the sending unit, my first b2's gas tank.. i throw it all as far as i can and thats where it stays lol
 
You know, if you throw that stuff in the back of the Ranger instead and haul it down the the scrap yard you could prolly have enough money to finish the 79.
 
nah, scrap yard here dont pay for shit. i gave him a complete b2 last year and i didnt get a cent out of it. im also about to give him 2 more b2s and he probably wont give me any more money but oh well i dont want them here in my garden taking up space
