I wanna thank everyone that answered my earlier question about using JB weld to seal a gas leak in the tank of my 1992 ranger xlt 4.0 v6, I have a follow up question, as I believe I noted this is meant to be a temporary fix until I buy a new gas tank, but I can’t find a gas tank for this vehicle anywhere and was wondering if anyone knew where online or in general I could find one

try a junkyard? I just looked at rock auto out of curiosity and they dont list a stock replacement tank, can get about anything else fuel system related including a auxiliary in-bed tank but not a stock replacement. The tank in my 94 came from a 97 so it doesnt have to be the exact year or engine size, I even got lucky enough to have upgraded from the 14.5 gallon tank to a 20 gallon. Mines a longbed though and Im unsure about a 20 gallon tank fitting in a shortbed or supercab chassis.

Only the metal tanks are reproduced as far as I know, and your year might have a plastic tank
And the metal ones don't fit

Plastic welding is a permanent fix, and how these tanks are made, the seam around the middle of the tank is a plastic weld

Wrecking yard gas tanks will work but they often have holes drilled in the bottom to drain the gas before they are put out in the yard, i.e. environment requirement
And they often move vehicles around in wrecking yards with fork lifts, which are not kind to gas tanks or driveshafts, lol

autozone has 2 different ones listed online not sure of the difference for 1992 ranger

The biggest I've seen in a short bed has been 19.5 gallons. My 2011 has one and it's a tight fit with the Supercab. With a regular cab, you might have to stick with the 17.0 gallon tank.

I'm not sure how compatible the newer model tanks would be with your 1992.
