Just bought a 98 ranger xlt super cab, about two weeks ago. I'm trying to figure out how big the tank is with out stranding myself.. The owners manual says I have a 20 gallon tank, but the other day the "check gauge" light came on and the fuel level was looooooow.. filled it up and took 14.3 gallons.. if it is a 20 gallon tank, the light shouldn't be going on unless there was roughly a gallon in the tank, right? it's frustrating. How else can I determine what size tank I have?

98 ranger xlt 4x4 supercab.
31x10.5 bfg's
auto
A/C. etc, etc..

Not if the gauge is wrong.

I have a 96 Subaru and when the low fuel light comes on I generally have 4 gallons left in the 16 gallon tank.

The quickest way is to drive it 'til it runs out and then fill it up. But that can be hazardous to your fuel pump.

I'm with Jim on breaking out the ole measure tape and calculator.
