Hey guys, doing some more planning for my swap. I tried searching and have been reading about the swap for a couple years now but havent read much about the fuel system.

What are you guys doing with it? My truck is an 86 B2 and I am pulling the engine out a 91 F150 and the only mods I am planning on doing right now is maybe a cam and rockers while I build up the stroker.

Will my stock system run this engine or should I mod the F150 in tank pump into my stock sending unit and bypass the pump on the frame?

Thanks in advance guys

the pump in the tank is low pressure and all it does is get the fuel to the pump on the rail which is the high pressure. you need both pumps to run. and the B2 fuel system is sufficient as is

bingo u running carb or efi
if u go carb some mods may be necessary to get proper pressure and im not sure about the return

Hey djkommando, is that for sure about the low pressure pump in the tank needing the high pressure pump for a carb application? I was told the in tank pump will move the fuel at about 12psi and it's still a little high for a carb. So, the people I was talking to said just remove the high pressure unit on the rails and use the in-tank unit with a regulator and I should be good. Is what I've been told not true?

freerider6_9, I bought my regulator from Mallory and I talked to them about my application. They were saying if I had to use the stock high pressure pump in my 87 ranger it will push the gas at about 30psi. To run a carb you only need about 8psi so the return line has to be bigger vs. the feed line because of all the pressure you have to return to the tank.

you didnt say anything about a carb. for a carb setup id prob get a sending unit for an 85 B2 since thats the only year that has a carb sending unit and has the 3 5/8" sending unit hole like all the other EFI sending unit so it will fit your tank (carb sending units are normally 2"). then run a mechanical or electric pump made for a carb setup. theres prob a way you can use the pump in the tank only w/ a pressure regulator, but im not too big on carbs, so this is someone elses area.

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew what the 2 pumps on the B2 were just wasnt sure if they flowed enough, therefor if I had to I would have put a pump from an F150 and put it in my B2s tank and bypassed the inline on the frame.

So I can check this off the list, thanks guys.
