Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone could lend me a hand.
I have a 91 ranger 4x4 and i thought i had a bad fuel pump so i changed the pump and the relay only to have it not work..

I checked the computer for codes and it threw code 96 which is fuel pump circut open-battery to ecc processor.

traced wires and found a broken wire at the fuel pump harness. i fixed that and rechecked and pump still didnt work so i checked for codes and found a new code 95 which is fuel pump circut open ecc to ground. anyone else ever ran into this problem and what did you do to fix it.

there is definatley a ground issue somewhere. if you have any ideas were to look id appreciate it

mike

I'd look at the fuse for the EEC relay, I'd also see if power is good at the intertia switch.

the fuse of the computer is good but ill check for power at the inerta switch

if thats not it ill have to go through the harness wire by wire
if the computer is throwing a codes that means it aint fried right?????

Check the ground next to the PCM behind the passenger side kick panel.

when I was building my truck the fuel pump wouldn't go because that ground had not been tightened and I got a code 95.

If that is an EEC IV computer unplug the computer (60 pin plug) and on the female side use a jumper to ground pin 22. The pumps should run with the Ignition Sw. in the run position. That will tell you if the delivery system is good.
If that checks out, check the resistance on pins 20,40,49 and 60. Those pins are grounds.
On my 86 when I got the 95 code it was a bad ground on the radiator support to the passenger side of the radiator next to the battery. Some have a butt splice connector that gets dirty and looses contact.
A good site to go to is www.fordfuelinjection.com. It gives a lot of information on the EEC IV computer and the pin locations.
