So last weekend, I decided to do some 360's one the highway, just for kicks.

No, actually, the highway was nothing but slush, I skipped over an expansion joint, fishtailed and ended up in the ditch. Nobody was hurt, and more importantly, neither was the truck. Well, to a certain extent. Bumper damage mostly, and the front tire came off.

Anyways, driving home, I noticed I've been less than average fuel mileage. Perhaps it's due to the alignment that's completely off, or because of the odd matched 4th tire (my spare).

It also crossed my mind if I should look into the fuel shut off mechanism. The truck was at quite the angle in the ditch, and I remember reading that in cases like that, the fuel shut off valve might need to be reset.

The truck is going in to the shop this week. So we'll see if the alignment fixes the poor mileage. But is it possible that the shut off valve would hamper fuel mileage?

My $.02....I doubt it ...that switch turns the fuel pump off until it is reset...

yup its supposed to be all on or all off

+3 on/off, no in between. Plus, if it were "half way" off, you should see better fuel mileage because there would be less fuel going into the engine.:icon_twisted:

The misalignment could be doing it, but it could also be a fluctuation in ambient temperature that you've been experiencing lately. Has the temperature been colder lately?

Does any one know anything about pinging noise in an 89 ranger 2.9L

Pinging or ticking? Ticking on the 2.9L is fairly common.

But, if you really want some advice about your engine I would suggest posting a new thread in a more appropriate area of the forum. There is a General Discussion forum as well as a 2.9L specific Engine subforum and either of those would be a better place to discuss an issue with your engine than in another person's thread.

LOL i really dont know much about forums man i just bought my first computer in 08.. i found one with alot of people online and figured i throw it out there. but its a pinging noise

No worries, find the Engine specific subforum (scroll farther down on the main page) and read some threads in there. If you can't find one related to your issue just post up a new thread!

Your "shutoff valve" is an electric trip switch that is thrown by a sudden impact of sufficient force. It's on or its off, as stated above. I've seen running engines stay running after it trips, but trying to drive one like that will stall the engine.

Your alignment might be reducing fuel economy, you might have also crushed or punctured a line that is now keeping fuel out or letting it leak.

Fair enough guys, I thought that would be the case. I'm hoping mileage gets better after the truck gets out of the shop.
