My guage ALWAYS reads a 1/4 tank to below the "E". :no2:

I've posted a while back about my problem of obtaining a replacement unit, Ford only has them for the diesels, and there is litterally NO replacement parts available!

So my Uncle had the old gas tank out of his truck, and I used his sender, it worked....for THREE DAYS! :shok:

So I was told to check LMC Truck, and what they had for for fuel injected 1st gens, and ext cabs.

J.C. Whitney has a Universal kit:

It looks like my ONLY option, do you think I could wire it into the OEM fuel guage and it would work ok?

Now I've been hearing talk about "Techroline" and how it fixes this:

Fuel has sulfer compounds which effect the readings on your fuel sending unit hidden in your gas tank.

It is an additive called Techroline! It is available at your automotive supply store. It is available in 2 different size containers. You just add it to your gas tank at the time of fill-up at least once a month. I was able to fix this problem on a vehicle that was 2 years old with 50,000 miles on it. I saved alot of money by doing this. I was getting a poor fuel level indication each time I filled up and thought I was in for a large repair bill. Techroline is an additive in the fuel at Chevron. I found it at the automotive store and have been using it every month. Put a bottle into your tank at each fillup until you see results. Then, once a month for preventative maintenance. This has solved the problem and I haven't had a reoccurance since last summer. This additive is also good for keeping your fuel system clean as well.

Hmm, is this true? Or typical propaganda?

id call bulshit on that one. the componets in your tank are made to be exposed to fuel. is the sending unit fuked, or is it a bad ground?

I'd bet the brass float is perforated and full of fuel.

$8 part, but you gotta pull the bed or drop the tank.

negative, I've replaced the "bad" sending unit with another used one.

the brass float on both was good, the "used" sending unit I put in worked for a few days, then stopped working, and ever since then it worked one time.

It's not a ground issue, as I used a ground jumper before I removed the old sending unit, had no effect on the gauge.

I had the same issue last year and found the problem at a gray connector on the drivers fender.Yellow wire loose/dirty connection, since cleaning that connector up the fuel guage has worked normal.

bypassed that connector and used a butt crimp terminal, still nothing.

The J.C. whitney kit is cheap enough, I'll just run new wires etc.

Let's make this thing ghetto.:woot:
