I am working on a 86 ranger that we are bringing back from the dead. We one of many things that we have found was that the tank pump was dead. We swapped out another pump that works. We pulled off the rubber plug on the return line and forgot to put it back on. The trunk seems like it either is getting too much fuel or not enough spark. My pressure gage it showing zero but it is fouling plugs?

I tried two of them with the same results. I did not have my vacuum gage to test it other than my friend sucking on it.

I am very confused by your post...

What is a trunk?
Did you hook the return line back up?
Your pressure gauge is a fuel gauge, yes? It's showing zero at all times?

Need a LOT more info here, man.

Did you "read" my post or are you just playing english teacher? I did not say anything about the return line? What other information do you need? I have the truck running AND the plug did help with some added back pressure on the return line. If the pressure gage was not zero all the time I would have posted it:icon_confused:

Actually you DID mention the return line, but if you are refering to the little rubber cap on the fuel pipe INSIDE the tank forget about it, it isn't a "plug"

It's slotted.

I wasn't trying to poke holes in your post, man, don't get so defensive. I just didn't understand what you were trying to say, so I was asking for more information.

You said "My pressure gage it showing zero but it is fouling plugs?". I was asking what kind of gauge it is (fuel, vacuum, oil), if it's ALWAYS zero, or at certain times. Little pieces of information like that go a long way.

I'm still unclear as to what you mean by "trunk". Not trying to insult you, I just want to understand your post better before I try and give advice.

In the context of his sentence.....he meant truck. The C and N keys are kinda close.

Im not trying to blast anyone. I thought I was pretty clear in what I posted? Im not doing the work on this truck all the time. The guy is not the best wrench but he tries hard. This motor has me stumped. Its getting gas and my gage is showing zero. My fine habor freight tool might be toast. My truck had a bad fpr and it spiked my gage a few times before I replaced the fpr. The truck we are working on is fouling plugs. He claims he checked and cleaned the grounds and I believe that he did but he is telling me that the truck starts and runs like crap until he pulls a plug wire and holds it about an inch away from the plug then it works and runs good? I don't know but that sounds like it could be a ground. he says he changed the coil, cap, wires etc... :icon_confused:

What kind of plugs is this thing have in it?? meaning are you getting hot enough spark . or what is the condition of the plug wires ?

I'm wondering that when the plug wire is pulled off 1"...it shaking pretty good?? yes?? at that moment anyway running rough. Maybe double check the connections...make sure you don't have a spade /pin pushing back...giving a iffy connection

after this has run....does fuel stream/fountain up out of the shraider valve on the injector manifold? ( get some rags ready)

try your fuel pressure gauge on a known good running vehicle ....if it registers correct fuel pressure...then it isn't your gauge...if it doesn't...well you then know your fuel pressure gauge is toast.
