Last week, while driving at highway speeds, my truck would bog down and lose power. I remedied it by changing the fuel filter. I had changed the filter before and it had a little over 25,000 miles on it, so I was going to be changing it soon anyways. This got me thinking possibly my fuel pump is getting weak. So, I bought a fuel pressure tester to see what it would reveal. It says I have 38 psi at idle, and it won't hold the pressure. The instant I turn the key off the pressure drops to zero. The factory service manual says I should have 64 psi +/- 8psi. How long should it hold the pressure after the key is off?
My truck doesn't have any driveability issues, the check engine light is off, and there are no DTC's stored. My truck does struggle some at highway speeds but its just an 01 ranger,2.5l 5speed 2wd loaded down with a utility cap full of tools and parts. Am I over reacting, or is there something going on here?
