My friend has a 91 Ranger 4.0L, automatic tranny and when he shuts the key off, it sounds like the fuel pump is still running and he has to disconnect the battery in order for it to stop. He said after he turned the key off, he let it keep pumping for a minute before disconnecting the battery. He pulled out a plug and it smelled like gas. Anyone have any thoughts of why the pump wouldn't shut off with the key turned off? Obviously it's something electrical, but would it be in the ignition somewhere? Thanks

It sounds as if the fuel pump relay is sticking closed. Try another relay. The only other thing I can think of is the power wire to the pump is shorted to another power source.:)shady
