i have a 88 ranger with 2.9 does anybody know if the fuel pump in the tank is a constant 12v.? i'm getting 12v when i hit the key then it flashes(on-off)5-7v. thanks

should get at least 12v, you have a bad connection somewhere

With Engine not running, key to Run position, The PCM will apply a ground for the FP relay for 2 seconds to prime the fuel system / build pressure. You've got that. Ignore the 5-7 volts after that.

Once the PCM sees crankshaft rotation (engine running), it will apply the constant 12v.

What's wrong with your truck? Won't start? Starts/stalls? The devil is in the details....

swaping fuel tank.i work in a collision shop and got a 06' aveo tank free with pump in it,its also plastic so no more rust holes.i was trying to to wire it to the ranger harness but it wouldnt turn the pump on.but it works with 12v going to it. guess ill wire it up and try cranking the motor over and see if that works. thanks for the info. :icon_thumby:
