so i just dropped a 2.9 into my bronco ii but now the once working fuel system is dead.

when i turn the key the fuel pump relay clicks twice as it should, but the high pressure pump doesnt come on. i ran 12v to it and it works so its not the pump. i checked the leads coming from the relay and theyre good.
checked fusable links-theyre good. replaced any blown fuses. still nothing.
checked inertia switch, its not even receiving power, and the wire going to the pump isnt getting power. i cant figure out whats going on!
am i missing something or am i gonna have to tear down my wiring harness?

have the TFI (ignition module) checked....it does have a fuel pump control element to.

the thing on the back of the didtributor?
i just replaced it a few months ago
theyre waterproof arent they?

yes it attaches to the distributor housing.

Waterproof??......well.... it does do a pretty good job...but i don't think they're submersible or anything. Did you apply the dielectric compound/grease to the mating sides when installing the new unit??

these TFI units do not handle heat well....I had one go bad within 50 miles, brand new out of the box. Can't say that is the issue for you. but sure couldn't hurt to get it checked to rule it out.

after re-reading your post....maybe you should check the fuel pump relay or the wires from the relay to the inertia switch.....seem like that is where it gone MIA

sometime what happens in the connections is that the pins/spade pushes back as the connector is pushed together....and yes you might be in for a battle checking the wires in the harness.

also check the grounds....there is one ground on the rear of the engine, passenger side, going to the head or the block. make sure that it good...if this has been sitting for a while perhaps the grounds need touched up a bit

hmm
well ive been toyinh with it for a while, i ran 12v to the pump and tried to start it but something doesnt sound right. when i start it it turns over normal, but then it acts like somethings getting stuck, goes slow, then fast, then slow.
and ifi let off when its going slow a "poof" comes out of the intake.

however,
it doesnt do this if the spark plugs are disconnected..
:icon_confused:

would an extremely un-timed distributor cause this?

heres a video if it.
the first round is with everything hooked up. then the last try is with the coil unplugged form the dist.

It does sound like the timing is off for one reason or another.

i got her running! :)

turns out there was a little green relay that was stuck between the plastic wheel well and the piece it bolts to, replace it and she started after fixing the timing (which was about 90 degrees off haha)

putting the finishing touches on it, new warn hub lockers and some kumho mud terrains :D

heres how she sounds, i still need to tune the timing and plug some vacuum lines
