i have a 88 4x4 ranger and my truck just stop runnin the other day. i think it has something to do with the fuel pump but i pulled my bed off and i have no power at my fuel pump so can anyone help me please!!!

Check the interia switch. Passenger side, behind carpet, next to tranny hump. Reset if nessecary.

You will not have power at the pump if the engine is not running. When the ignition key is first turned on, you will have power for approx 2 seconds. The computer then waits for ignition pulses before starting the pump again. This occurs when the starter starts turning the engine over.

Power flow is as follows:
Ignition on, EEC relay closes contacts supplying power to the fuel pump(fp)relay coil(red wire) and engine sensors.

At the same time the computer grounds the other side of the fp relay coil thru the tan/lt grn wire, and closes the contacts supplying 12v from the yellow wire to the org/lt blu wire going to the inertia switch.

From the inertia switch, it goes to the fp.

You can jumper the tan/lt grn wire to ground, this will close the relay, and the pump should run all the time you have the ignition switch turned on. This will allow you to follow the power source all the way to the pump. shady

TFI or AKA Ingition Control Module...on the back side of the distributor, they have a fuel control element.

CLean and check your grounds.

unplug relay, jump yel wire to org/Lt. blu, pump should run key on or off.

You can do it this way, but if you ground the pump relay, you will be able to check the system in its normal state with all components in place and possibly isolate the problem to one circuit or another.

It is recommended that the ground be placed on the self test connector, but I don't think the poster knows what this is. shady

You have a point. I didn't think about it like that. The way I suggest would only test the wiring and the interia switch, not the other components.
