Fuel pump lock ring

2001 2.5l

Pulled the fuel tank to swap out the pump and lo and behold ford has this wonderful white lock ring holding down the fuel pump body inside the fuel tank. I know there is a specialty tool fo this but does anybody know of any quick ways around this?

i used some copper rods so I didn't bend the little pieces sticking up on my '87 then just "gently" smacked it with a 5 lb. hammer till she was off.

Oh yours is plastic i would be a little more gentle with yours then i was with mine
