Hey all.

I have a 1993 Extended Cab 4.0L Ford Ranger. A little bit ago it was ran out of gas. Since then I did not hear the fuel pump kicking on so i decided to check the Inertia Switch. I reset it and didnt get any luck.

Today I finally had a chance to pull my Fuel Filter and Tank. The filter looked pretty Good. I got the tank out and pulled the pump out. I tried to test the pump with a direct wire and it doesnt kick on.. (what wires power it).

So i decided to test the Socket where the pump plugs into to be positivie there was power there.

There are four wires. a Black, Pink-red, Yellow and another Black.

At the pink-red wire i am getting 2.0 volts at turn on. On the Yellow i am getting 8.0 Volts. Now i read somewhere it was supposed to get 12 for a couple seconds and it goes back to 8.. Is this true?

What else could this be? I really need to get this truck running ASAP and all help is more then appreciated! Thanks all!

if the pump won't run with direct power then its not going to run with power from the truck.

replace the pump

is your battery fully charged?

Yes my battery was charged overnight that way it would have good voltage to do testing. I understand that if the pump isnt running from direct power that it wont run from power from the truck ;)

I had read on a couple places that the fuel pump electrical socket on the Main harness should receive 12V for 3 seconds then go back down... It seems to just hold at 8 V......

I had a friend stop buy.. He checked the Relay panels and informed me my fuel pump relay was not getting a ground. He ran a jumper wire from the ECU Relay.. Will this work safely? What would be a more perminant fix? Thanks all

so the fuel pump now has power and it is getting presure at the scheuder valve but still wont start. starts on starting fluid..can anyone help me i need this fixed asap im going insane being stuck home! thanks all

- is the gas in the tank bad?

- what is the fuel presure?

- did you check the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator(not sure if this is your issue}

gas in the tank is fresh as i just put it in. I havent made it to autozone yet to get a Fuel Pres tester.. What should it be? I havent checked the vac line on the FPR.. how would i "check" it? Thanks for your reply Modelageek

do a pressure test..................pull the vacuum line off the fpr. there shouuld not be gas in it
