Fuel Pump and Lean Conditions

Someone decided to use two head gaskets :flipoff:
No wonder the head bolts were so easy to break loose!!!

Fortunately nothing looks to affected other than adding to the lovely mess I get to clean up.. :annoyed:

Valves upon closer inspection look very salvageable, going to replace the broken exhaust bolts. New Valve replacement parts with the gasket set so they will go on when I'm done cleaning.

For reference I'm using the Fel-Pro set but I'm going with non torx style heads because honestly I strongly dislike trying to torque them the normal bolt style just seems easier.

Edit

Thought ran through my head, not that I recommend but wouldn't that mean the head bolts that were installed never actually stretched because they were never seated correctly?

So technically "installed" but never actually used 😂

You're guessing about what the previous owner did. Not a chance I would want to take on head bolts. That's just me. I hate doing that kind of job twice simply because I was too cheap to do it right the first time.

Really think someone was making poor choices as well, feeling more like a dentist brushing and cleaning everything 😩

The absolutely worst part is the pistons being caked in layers of carbon along with the heads AND block being just stuck with half the gasket and everything is being done by hand absolutely no power tools.

The valves after cleaning them up are actually in pretty darn good condition considering everything going wrong but they are definitely needing to have more cleaning new seals etc before reinstalling.

However if you needed this done and had no other vehicle to rely on and you got a job and not much experience, these heads aren't hard but taxing, especially the driver's side with AC if you don't have AC the workload is pretty similar on both heads.

Also myself having completely screwed up one Head Job before and it blew exactly one month of normal driving, yeah if you miss one step you got to do it all over again!

For clarity this job is getting brand new bolts including the exhaust manifold!

If I had a junkyard motor I might save these old bolts just to mess around with or temporarily act as shop plugs

Apparently you can pull the driver's side head without removing the compressor/power steering bracket or radiator fan.

The Tensioner blocks one of the mounting bolts, to reinstall the head you'll need to gently work the head back in and get these bolts back in, make sure it's not at an angle by slowing working in the head bolts also by hand to help secure it.

Tightening them pulls the head forward lining it up perfectly, once the head bolts are in and torqued properly it seats real nice.

The whole reason I did this is because those systems are functional and I'm not going to disturb them much, also my fan clutch and water pump pulley are now a unicorn 🦄

My pulley is grooved AND recessed so no tool is available anymore even for rent at a place like AutoZone.

You have to basically make your own tool in order to get the clutch off the water pump.

Tried every unconventional means and no, so if you have one of these older heavy duty pulley and clutch units, you need to make a tool..
